Have not. Here's what I'd propose but not sure I know the place well enough yet. What do you think?JustHawkin wrote:I searched through this thread to see if you posted pros and cons.TheSpanishMain wrote:

Pros:
1) DC. Lots of opportunities to intern during the school year, which, from what I understand, means you have a second chance at stuff that's really in demand over the summer.
2) Good professors, lots of electives. If you're interested in something, there's probably a class on it. Not sure how employable that is, but if you're trying to carve out a niche it's probably helpful.
3) So far, pretty chill classmates. Generally smart (with a few exceptions) and focused, but not douchey.
4) Excellent facilities for the most part. The gym is great.
5) Reasonable curve.
Cons:
1) Selective jobs (BL, FedGov, Clerkships) get iffy at median.
2) Expensive and unpredictable with scholarships although does have a solid LRAP if you are PI focused.
3) Graded LRW blows.
4) DC is a very in-demand market and the class size is absurdly huge.
5) Campus is in a not really dangerous but not really pleasant area of the city.

I suppose I'd be a supporter of Carolina bbq had I never been to Tennessee, or Texas, or Missouri, or just about any state in the Deep South. Carolina bbq in a vacuum isn't terrible, it's just much worse than every other bbq. So I guess it isn't bad so much as it's horribly disappointing? Pair with a local beer and you have the saddest little dinner in the Mid-Atlantic.First Offense wrote:These two are objectively wrong. I could discuss job placement or clinics or professors or student body, but I suspect Duke is fairly interchangeable with most of the rest of the T14 in these categories. So here's an attempt at being relatively Duke-specific:
Pro:
2) Basketball (and now football, too, kinda). I could write about the benefits of strong revenue sports in terms of campus environment, alumni network, and general quality of life, but we'd be here all day.

3) BBQ. Jesus, it's like they're intentionally screwing up a good thing. Good bbq sauce is not nor should ever be vinegar-based. Ever. Jesus. (But see hushpuppies, sweet tea).

don't get me wrong, graded LRW sucks; however, if it were ungraded, I would be putting in zero effort. As this shit is actually kind of important for real life, or so I've been led to believe, I can get over it.

But I think part of the terribleness comes from knowing other people get to take it p/f

Assuming you go to a halfway decent school (do low tier schools have ungraded LRW?), a good chunk of people are still gunning for honors. I only know a few putting in the absolute bare minimum to pass, or at least they claim to beMcAvoy wrote:this seems like a slight exaggerationrahulg91 wrote:Graded LRW is literally worse than ISISjk148706 wrote:I cannot agree with this more.arklaw13 wrote:Vandy

Obviously. I was not trying to "justify" graded LRW or claim anything contrary to this.jk148706 wrote:Most t14s have non graded LRW. Doesn't seem to affect those schools' ability to place grads/produce successful lawyers.
I only said that, for me personally, I can get over having it be graded as (1) I am a very lazy person who will almost never put in work beyond what is required, and (2), as someone who wants to be a litigator, it is not a bad thing to be forced to put effort into formally developing LRW skills. Yes, it sucks, but I'm not positive if it sucks any more or less than my doctrinals.

It did suck in my room for a year, and I thought it was just typical — then I started asking around and learned it was just me. Complained to IT and within one day they had installed a wireless access point IN MY HOUSE. Now it's speedy.

With much due respect, "rubs" are not BBQ. That's just "grilling out". If it isn't pork or it isn't mustard or vinegar based that isn't BBQ. That's foreign food. Next you're going to be telling us chili is always made with beans.beachbum wrote:I suppose I'd be a supporter of Carolina bbq had I never been to Tennessee, or Texas, or Missouri, or just about any state in the Deep South. Pros: I admire the level of versatility (understanding of the law is helpful in a variety of careers, from mediation to politics.) here!
Cons: Highly competitive.. If you are not ambitious/passionate about this thing, then it is often difficult to survive here :/ Keep up the pace. Sometimes ( just sometimes) I feel sad about my sleepless nights

By Carolina BBQ I assume you mean SOUTH Carolina BBQ. Vinegar by itself sucks. Mustard/vinegar BBQ is in a class of its own, and if you haven't tried it, you need to.Dude Carolina BBQ is the tits.
