Re: Class of 2012 Employment Data
Just saying, to call working at a small firm or business or academic or a non-fed clerkship, to be "under/unemployed" is a bit presumptuous. Some people may have wanted to go into that route (I know at least 4 or 5 from GULC), some people (such as internationals) are not eligible for AIII clerkships but are eligible for state ones (I know of at least 1 from Mich.), and some people wanted to be in academia and got their chance. 100+ firms/AIII clerkships are not the holy grail for everyone.
My .02 cents.

Re: Class of 2012 Employment Data
We know. It's already been discussed here (and elsewhere). The graphs intentionally paint a conservative picture of employment because of the difficulty of judging the other categories.chipchip wrote:Just saying, to call working at a small firm or business or academic or a non-fed clerkship, to be "under/unemployed" is a bit presumptuous. Re: Class of 2012 Employment Data
but for the interest of compiling a credible source of information for desirable outcomes we have to basically assume those outcomes are shit.

Cooley's data is out. I noticed that there wasn't a spot left on the graph for it so it's gonna have to be edited (don't know how you forgot the #2 school in the country)

Not bad. 1.4% into desirable outcomes and 79.4% un/underemployed.lever1je wrote:Cooley's data is out. I noticed that there wasn't a spot left on the graph for it so it's gonna have to be edited (don't know how you forgot the #2 school in the country)

Thanks for this data guys. Anyone with knowledge of Cornell think that the 57.9% is sustainable? Any reasons why they can't top 50% every year? They're usually closer to 40% right?

Remember that firms of 100+ attorneys are not the same thing as NLJ firm placement. I think that you may be confusing the two.ph5354a wrote:Thanks for this data guys. The funniest part of Cooley's numbers are the school funded part time non-professional positions. Do they take on unemployed students as janitors?

Re: Class of 2012 Employment Data
There's no reason to think they can't. Cornell was placing 70%+ before the crash. It won't ever get back to that point, but Cornell can place just as well as peer schools ITE.ph5354a wrote:Yup, you're rightAberzombie1892 wrote:Remember that firms of 100+ attorneys are not the same thing as NLJ firm placement. And Cornell wasn't unique in being under 50% last year IIRC (firms + A3). C/o 2011 was rock bottom.

It's also a small class size, so small bumps in placement in terms of numbers can affect their percentages significantly.ChampagnePapi wrote:There's no reason to think they can't. UC Hastings:
100+ Firms - 59/443
Fed Clerks - 9/443
Total: 15.3%
BTW They got a really detailed breakdown on their site, very interesting breaking down biz and PI jobs:

7 people working in-house, 7 people in consulting, etc etc

Re: Class of 2012 Employment Data
Also, just eyeballing it, it doesn't seem like the employment situation is improving much at most law schools. The top schools are seeing a rebound in biglaw hiring, but the BR/FT% outside the top schools is still very low. Hastings is at 50%
I guess we will know for sure once LST updates.

Yeah, seems like biglaw did well but pretty much everything else is still struggling a bit.ChampagnePapi wrote:Also, just eyeballing it, it doesn't seem like the employment situation is improving much at most law schools. Wow, big jump for BU: ~22% to ~32%
Dying to see BC's numbers; hope they have a proportionate jump.

CLS, Chicago, Boalt and NU are taking a while. Wonder if that means anything other than them just being slow.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
