Nope. Not according to every single lawyer I've talked to. There are tons of Vandy alums in ATL, plus the fact that Vandy alums run the biggest firms there (Alston & Bird, King & Spalding). Vandy > Emory in ATL.
im sure it's not a huge advantage.
vandy is a great school, though. strongly considered it myself.

Fair. It's not a massive gap, but it's definitely there.
But you're going to UChicago, so luckily, you don't have to worry about any of this!

please. I'm from Miami and strongly considering using Chicago to slingshot back to Miami.
These kinds of discussions are material to me.

T12 or so. I think that under T12 you should make your decision based on some formula of your choosing that has to do with how much you like the region and how much money you got. Example: BC vs. USC with the same amount of money is really tough and probably just comes down to where you want to be even though USC dominates it on USNWR rankings. I am still in the process of choosing between BC and UT with similar amount of money and have been told by many people that the relative prestige difference does not even come close to making up for the fact that I like New England more than TX.

Ok, fine. Bad example. My UMNTC/MSP example still holds.

If nonresident, almost assuredly not. $35k per year tuition? Estimated COA is $165k. How many market-paying jobs or even $100k paying jobs does MN have? 19% NLJ250 (assume proxy for market or near-market) doesn't sound like great odds.
If resident, maybe, but we're not really talking about that.

T13, if you are willing to gun your ass off.
I have a BSEE, so I probably would have paid sticker at UIUC/GWU/WUSTL if it came to it.

i feel sorry for you americans. our top law school is only like $12,000/year. yay gov't subsidies (ie. "socialism")!!
i feel even more sorry for myself, as i consider paying sticker at a T2 in the US vs. paying 1/3 the cost at a Top3 in Canada.

I am going to pay sticker at Cornell and I feel like a bit of a sucker for it but its the best decision for me I think. I didn't apply to a school ranke dlower than Fordham because I want the most flexibiltiy in choosing a job that I willl enjoy given that I will spend so much of my life there. Given that, the best scholarship offer I got was 10k a year at Fordham. While the extra 30k would be nice, it's pretty insignificant in the long run.
Would other people in my shoes paid stick at Cornell or dug deeper down into tier one (say brooklyn) to get a scholarship?

Vandy or GW probably would have thrown you some money too, y'know.

Yeah seriously. Vandy especially was giving out money like candy this cycle.

I should have applied to GW earlier, I didn't really know it was that good of a school until late into my cycle. As it is I'm still waiting to here from them. My SO is going to be in NY or DC so that's why I passed on Vandy. Though, given their increased placement numbers recently, I almost regret not applying to see what I would get.

Hate to break it to you bro, but there are plenty of dead end law jobs (solo practice hell, document review hell, no fault insurance defense, small time personal injury claims) with almost no possibility of advancement because the market is so crowded. At least you can get a dead-end job out of UG without soul-crushing debt.

I think it varies based upon how bad you want to practice law. I know this is TLS sacrilege, but I would consider paying sticker for anywhere in the tier 1 IF I had no other options. At that point though, I would consider state schools/big scholly offers in tier 2. Tier 3/4 at any price would be a no go IMO.

So you are willing to pay
210k for Columbia
210k for NYU
200k for Chicago
175-180k for UVA
But not 190k-200k for any of Duke, Mich, Penn or NU? I'm sure you have your reasons and you are not alone in terms of TLSers with similar sentiments, but I honestly find this cutoff somewhat strange.

ITE: BA in econ+mediocre GPA+nonimpressive internship experience+no connections=unemployment.
I'll be making a big withdrawal from the Bank of Mom and Dad=no debt.

My line was drawn at NYU...
If I didn't get into NYU or Columbia, I would have taken Fordham with $$$$ (I would have taken Fordham with $$ as well) before paying sticker anywhere higher.
That probably has more to do with NYC than anything else though...
