slippin_jimmy wrote:Quick question - for why essays, after the first full mention of a school's name (e.g. New York University), it's appropriate to abbreviate as NYU, yes? For the other ones, it's easy because you can just use a one word name (Columbia, Duke, etc) and drop university. But for NYU/UVA, should I be saying New York University & Virginia, respectively?
I take my cues from the website - if they refer to themselves by some abbreviation, I think it's okay to do so in your essay.

Someone is playing gentle piano music outside my apartment. It's lovely.

Someone is blasting rap at a party across the street and I'm trying to go to bed
The worst. :( I can commiserate though, my neighbor just starting doing the same. Who starts a party at 11:30?!?

Oh I'm definitely a crotchety old man too. I have this gavel I bang against the wall when they get too loud, but I try to reserve it for weeknights/after 4 AM. Kids these days.

Again, I have my scary murderer face that is my resting face so I just break that out when I need to.
I should get me one of those. I'm terribly un-intimidating.

I had neighbors like that in my old building. One time my father in law was visiting and staying with us. He is a scary, red haired, bearded Irishman. We had him go over and silence the noisy college kids. No more problems after that.
I'll ask people in my building, but I do sort of live in the hood so I leave the people outside alone
Yeah, but my neighbor gives me cookies sometimes. So I feel bad if I ever tell her to stop having fun.

Being a large human being and looking like your constantly pissed off has its benefits, I never have problems with neighbors after a talk.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

I know we all can be pretty t14 or bust but just focus on killing the lsat. A strong regional or school like Vanderbilt/ucla with big $ is still a great outcome.
+1.
I really want T-14, but it's because it's the best bet for my future career goals. If a regional school or Vandy/UCLA/WUSTL can get you where you want to go, then there's no reason to risk the debt.
+1 to both of you. I just need to focus on my retake and see how the cards fall.

I agree. I am gone a bit opposite lately, though. Used to be high on Vandy, but the more I look at employment numbers the more I get wary of Vandy. This is because I really want big law though. 30% isn't a good amount for me, and I would feel much better about debt of the school was sending over 50%.

Also, my lor writer said she would have it in by Saturday, and it is now Sunday. I am officially stressed again :(
I'm the same - I was leaning strongly toward aiming for big $$ at some strong T1 regionals but am starting to second guess myself. I'm really debt averse because I want to go into PI, but most PI organizations in my state have had hiring freezes since '08 - so I wonder if it may come down to shelling out money for top school+debt+job, or going to lower school+no debt+un/underemployed.

ETA: I just ran three miles!
