What is tech transactions and which group is it under?
I hear that it is even better than M&A for getting in-house jobs, especially in tech, but I don't see any of the firms I looked at having it as a group.

White & Case has a pretty decent sized tech transactions group. It’s somewhat of a hybrid, with lots of IP people (including some former litigators, if memory serves), but is generally considered an M&A subgroup.

Goodwin groups by industries. Tech/Life Sciences in their biggest group and tech transactions falls within that (along with Cap Markets, M&A etc.)Anonymous User wrote:White & Case has a pretty decent sized tech transactions group. I thought Goodwin NY has fewer than 10 people in Tech Tran. Goodwin has a big IP Lit group though.Anonymous User wrote:Goodwin groups by industries. Boston has over 100 people, some crossover between life sciences though.Anonymous User wrote:I thought Goodwin NY has fewer than 10 people in Tech Tran. As for what tech trans is, it generally encompasses a variety of agreements and issues that pop up for technology companies, such as licensing, IP acquisition and monetization, joint ventures, JDAs, technology-related commercial agreements, IP and tech components in M&A, data privacy and security, SaaS and cloud computing agreements, etc.
Different firms may have a different mix of work that falls under tech trans, so don't expect you'll do the exact same thing at each firm. For example, the tech trans group at a NY firm may be centered around M&A support while the tech trans group at a SV firm may be centered around commercial and licensing agreements.
