Part way through the day they usually usher all of the candidates into one large conference room and fire you all.

That didn't happen to me. I was fired during the first interview.

I met with 2 junior associates for lunch, interviewed with 2 partners, and interviewed with 2 senior associates. Everyone was really nice from recruiting on up.
