Not to mention that the stakes were raised by some posters cunningly employing game theory to up the ante between pages 170 and 180. Now, if we get a wave before 180, everyone with an LSAT below the current page count gets dinged. So, a wave before 180 now will be very bad for almost everyone here. Wave at page 181, God help us all.

180 is just a lucky number for us. It's both a perfect LSAT and the biglaw starting salary.
Thanks!

It started out as a bad joke that we clung to long after it stopped being funny (originates in LSAT wait threads, because LSAT waiters are superstitious folk--if the thread reaches 180 on Grey Day, everyone gets a 180). The modified form holds that if this thread is on page 180 when the first JS2 is reported in it, everyone who's posted in the thread (including you) will be admitted into HLS.

but at this point it's also an actual sincere superstition. Gives us the illusion of control because being powerless is nerve-wracking.

"For us, and for our tragedy,
Here stooping to your clemency,
We beg your hearing patiently."

let's get to 180, my contribution right here.

They call a would-be waitlist instead.

They waitlist you, they assume you don't want it.

I don't think we know how many JS1's from WL end up not receiving JS2's (I hope not many; it would suck to have your hopes raised and dashed like that), so the numbers you give will change based on that. But your point is taken.
I think the nomenclature has been to call those who interview off WL something other than js1. I think they are called JSb.
The 30% figure is from a past year's thread.
So does the ~900 admits include those pulled off the waitlist?
yes
