166/3.8 - Chances at T14 & T30

Post by OneSixtySix » Wed Dec 30, 2009 11:48 pm

I swore I would never make a "What are my chances" thread, but decided to due to the unpredictability of T25 and the fact I am applying later in the cycle (still working on apps).

Softs: Internship, 1 yr work exp., undergraduate thesis, Departmental Honors.

UC Berkeley
Duke
Cornell
---
UCLA
USC
BU
BC
Wash - STL
Notre Dame

Should I even bother applying to UC Berkeley or Duke (or anyother T14)? LSP has me at high 40s/low 50s for a few very intriguing schools...but how valid is that?

All these schools interest me a great deal, but I may end up making a choice based on the financials of the matter - any chance for scholly at anywhere on the list?

I think bissey is right - I have nearly identical numbers to yours and that is what I heard.

HOWEVER,

It is totally worth it to apply to the schools you are shooting at. Realistically, looking at the 25th percentile LSATs, you have a shot at Berkeley, Duke, Cornell, maybe NW (only 1 year work, though), and Michigan and Penn apparently have those who sneak in at 166 too. It might take a great PS, an adcomm in a good mood or right after a 3-martini lunch, and a good Why X essay, but you have a shot. That's all that matters, isn't it?

I've seen people with your scores on LSN rejected from Notre Dame but in at two or three T14. I was asking for advice on Cornell and NW, but after hearing "probably not", I thought, "probably is the key word.". There's a chance, and when it comes to something as big as law school, why not take the chance? If anything, apply to everything below HYSCC.

Just ask for fee waivers :).

waiting until next yr and applying ED to a school such as UVA is an option for you...and a good one....other than that I agree with the above posters

Edited for redundancy

Agreed. You may also consider applying ED at NU next year ... there are a couple of folks who made it in this year with similar #'s similar to yours!

Guys stop making me want to wait till next year!

Its tempting to wait, and perhaps I should...but its no guarantee. Northwestern or Bereley would be unreal. Hell, before starting this process I considered BU/BC/ND unreal (and still do).

Well, I think that you stand a very good chance of being admitted at USC on down ... LSP shows you as being an admit or strong consider at USC on down and a consider at Berkeley (if CA resident), Duke, Cornell, and UCLA (likewise, if CA resident)

I have 3.8/166 and I was told I had no shot at t14. Because everyone said I had no shot, I figured I would take a risk and apply ED at NU and I got in! I also applied to mich, gulc, and Cornell but won't know how I did at those schools. I got into BU and UMN with money at both. So moral of story is you can do it! Aim high.

We have very similar numbers. I'm applying to 5 schools in the T-14, plus ucla, usc, and UW.

Basically, apply to the schools you want, but make a few of them be realistic. You wont get in if you dont try, and there is a chance for you at cornell, ucla, etc.

I know pretty much for sure that much of the T-14 will tell me no, but there really isn't anything to lose if you can afford the app fee.

IMO you have nonzero chances at Cornell, Northwestern, and Georgetown PT within the T14.

Not likely unless that 3.8 becomes a 3.85.

3.85/166 in at UVA ED . . . in-state, though.
