3.4 UG GPA--Advice Needed

Post by RichyD23 » Tue Sep 03, 2013 11:04 pm

Hi guys,

I will be applying to schools in the middle of my senior year of UG with a 3.43 GPA from a top-10 UG school. I'm taking the LSAT in October.

Obviously, like most of you, my objective is to gain admittance into at least one t-14 school.

I am confident that my LSAT will at least put me in competition for these schools, as my last full-length, proctored, timed diagnostic was a 167 (almost 3 weeks ago with TestMasters) and I have made, and continue to make, significant gains in LG and LR section scores since that assessment (LG: +4 and LR I & II: +2.) Given my performance on diagnostics and related material, I feel somewhat optimistic that my LSAT score will help me recover from my comparably low GPA and that 170 is more than within reach.

All that said, my GPA is a source of concern for me at the moment. It's in the bottom 25% of all the schools that I'd like to go to and, though I feel tentatively confident about my LSAT, my GPA is the only concrete statistic I have available. Has anyone been in this nerve-wracking position? Any advice or suggestions? The situation makes me anxious. I know that my GPA puts me at a serious disadvantage for admissions, but just how bad off am I? What LSAT score would you wise TLSers consider safe for admission into at least t-14 and what schools should I be hedging my bets with?

Advice appreciated. You guys are the best.

D

Low GPA/High LSAT is called a splitter. Use the search function and you will find many, many other people discussing splitter application cycles.

Kill the LSAT and you'll have multiple options within the T14 and possibly even one or two in the non-YHS T6.

3.43 is well above the floor of most T-14 schools, especially now that apps have rapidly declined. Pair that GPA with a high LSAT and a nice Chianti and you'll be set.

Here is a thread with a number of splitters and their cycles last year.
