Addendum Question.

Post by jbird518 » Fri Sep 30, 2011 7:10 pm

Hey all,
Just saw my LSAC GPA summarry report and was a little bit discouraged. They gave me a lower cum GPA than my university has me at, and I was wondering how much you guys think an addendum would help? The report gave me a degree GPA of 3.5, and a cumulative GPA of a 3.0. During my first few years of college I had to commute back and forth between school in order to help my family out when my dad was diangosed with cancer, and I was working full time. Once he got better, and I joined the Army I was did not have to work full time through school and my GPA shot up. Also, several courses that I did not do well in those first few semesters were retaken and I got an A the next time around. So, I guess my main questions are 1.) will the schools look at my degree GPA more than the cumulative GPA, and 2.) how much weight will an addendum have in an application? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Also, I haven't taken the LSAT yet. But, I know that will be a huge factor in the process.

It sounds like you have a legit excuse, so writing an addendum might be a good idea.

However, the schools will still overwhelmingly look at the LSAC GPA, since that's what gets used to calculate their medians, which are reported to USNWR for the rankings.

Write the addendum.

Will it help? Arguably.
