. When I tell people I'm considering GULC, they seems to react positively to its being near the U Street district

Its not near U Street at all. The law school is at F and 1st in the NW. U Street in the NE is very, very dicey. Not sure about in NW.

I very much recommend living in NoVA, I can get to GULC in 25 minutes for, I believe, $1.60 a trip. My rent for a 2 bedroom, 2 full bath, 1200 square foot apartment with a huge common area and a view is $600 a month per roommate (There are four of us).

I am looking for a roommate, btw.

fwiw, it looks like the Hyatt Capitol Hill is still available on Hotwire for 143 a night, if anyone needs to book a hotel.

Did anyone request a student host? Since my wife can't come, I thought that might be the best (read: least expensive) way to stay in the area.

If that falls through, I'll likely stay with local relatives. I'm also vaguely considering finding a less expensive hotel near a Metro station that's further out.

I just requested a student host. I'm flying in Wednesday (23rd) and out on Saturday (26th). If I don't get assigned, it will be fine because I have some college friends who live in the Capitol Hill area.

I'm late to the game but I'm coming as well. It was between a weekend in Durham, NC or DC. I think the choice was easy. Be it as it may that I procrastinated, does anyone know if they offer travel stipends?

For the February ASW at least it wasn't anything fancy. They just rented out the basement of The Irish Times, a bar near Georgetown, and all the admitted students and some current students hung out. It was pretty fun and I think it's cool that they set up the transition to the nightlife experience (if it's anything like the Feb ASW there'll be a lot of current students trying to convince you to go out drinking with them).

Posted this in another thread but I figured it'd might be useful here. I can't make the ASW this week so I ended up going to DC this prior weekend to take advantage of the 60 degree weather on Saturday. I booked a room at the Grand Hyatt in downtown. Its on the corner of 10th st nw and H st. NW. Everything is within walking distance (plenty of restaurants). The school is about a mile away. 10-11 block straight walk down H st. through Chinatown. Capitol is also about a mile away just a few blocks south or north of the school not sure.

The room only ended up being $99 plus tax. They even let me check in early at 12pm with no additional charge (Just had to sacrifice the queen for two doubles...they even offered me a "suite" with only a pull out bed though. Kind of weird. when I declined they offered it to me for $50 lol. Still declined). Anyway I'm guessing since I booked last minute (Friday afternoon) it was so cheap. So for those of you who want to save a few bucks I would suggest waiting.

For the one other ASW that I attended, the TLSers arranged a quick meetup beforehand for lunch so that we weren't all awkward people from the internet going through the events alone. Would anybody be interested in something similar here? Or would you rather hide the fact that we all know each other?

I'll be arriving too late for any TLS meetup, but at other ASW's I attended, it was pretty easy to get to know people. There's a lot of forced socialization, what with the free meals and all. You'll find people to go out with if you want to do that as well. Lawyers are chatty. Yay stereotypes.

I'm in the Hyatt Regency capitol hill, which I was happy to learn is about a block from GULC. I'm gonna go have a sneak peak this evening when I get in.

I'm posting this from the 3rd floor of McDonough right now. I'm staying with relatives out in NoVA, so I'll be taking the subway in each day.

I will probably be in around 12 or 12:30 tomorrow, and I'm planning to sit in on a class in that 1:30-3:20 block. There does seem to be a block from 3:20 to 4, like Siamsa said, where we can find a coffee shop and be awkward briefly before we go and check in, or something. I'd be down.

I went and awkwardly walked around campus for a bit, it's really nice. There was a drum circle in the fitness center, didn't know what to make of that. I'm down for a meetup before check in tomorrow. Should we coordinate via PM? I don't know how this works.
