are you someone who can't study in his/her room? i don't know that i'd want to be there too late in the library either, but i don't really work in the library aside from maybe group projects. hmmmm

I actually prefer to study in my room, and did fine in undergrad avoiding the library. for some reason i have the impression that a lot of the research work done in law school requires resources only available in the library, but nowadays everything seems to be available electronically so maybe this isn't the case anymore. I'll ask around my 1L buddies and see how many of them actually go to the library for the resources and how many just go for somewhere quiet with large tables. Maybe we dont need to be in there as much as I thought :)

My question is: isn't it better to get off-campus housing close to CLS to get a one-year lease? I'm pretty sure I'll do something in the city for 1L summer, so it only seems to make sense to get a cheaper place I can stay in for the whole year, as opposed to find housing for 3 months, which is very difficult.

Does this make sense or is there some sort of arrangement with CLS that allows students to stay for the summer?
Leases are for the calendar, not academic, year. They know that most people will spend summers in NYC and hate moving.

Just received a call about an hour ago from a Columbia student. He was actually super helpful (moreso than the people I talked to from NYU) and answered all my questions about academia, housing, etc. definitely appreciated the phone call, and it made me lean even more towards columbia!

How do we RSVP for the March ASW? I followed the link to the website but I have no idea what my screen name and password are supposed to be.

the username and password is just the username and password for the admitted students site (I think it was in the VCE mailing). I can PM you it if you can't find it.

Sorry if I missed this, but is there any advantage to applying for housing early? Or is everyone who submits by the deadline given equal preference?

One part of me says no, the other part says "don't throw away those $150,000!"

We have already established in the other Columbia thread that VCE stands for violent centaur entourage. Trust me, you don't want to receive one. The centaur that informed me I got a Hamilton was really surly about it, and at points, downright threatening.

Of course. Columbia does a good job of targeting their centaurs. :D

What is the bunch of other stuff? Is there anything cool or cute? Also, is the box wrapped prettily?

Nope. Mine came in a clear plastic wrapping, and it screams where it's from. My roommate, who got the mail, pointed out that someone in our building got the same thing.

I'm getting ready to go to the ASDs next week, and I have no clue what class to visit on Wednesday. Would ConLaw be best with Burnett, Greene, or Barenberg? Anyone know anything about Kent Greenawalt or Theodore Shaw? Or have a suggestion for a good class on Wednesday?

I thought that the presentation was attractive, actually; at any rate, it's a lot better-looking than the VCE.

aww, I thought it was going to look kind of like a present. Apart from the gross color of the VCE, I think they have had attractive presentation for the materials I've received so far--I liked how shiny & glossy the admitted students handbook was. I guess I'm not a hard applicant for schools to sway in their favor based on how pretty their acceptance materials are (although CC were my top two choices going in, so it wasn't too hard to begin with). :)

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
