I'm not at all familiar with LA, what is it like around the campus?

Re: Loyola LA - Has anyone heard back?
It seemed run down and scary to me. I wouldn't feel safe walking around at night in the area. Others from LA may have a different opinion, that's just my first impression as someone who's never lived in a major city.

Re: Loyola LA - Has anyone heard back?
honestly, if guys don't feel comfortable with big city living then y would u apply to a school in the heart of one of the world's most vibrant metropoli? i admit downtown isn't the most aesthically pleasing or welcoming areas, but I can't say I had that experience in any downtown area in any major US city. the fact is that (As someone who has lived in downtown LA for the past 4 years after attending USC undergrad), the center of the city is going through an architectural and cultural revolution. the introduction of AEG's LA Live and the high-class apartment buildings that are being built are completely changing the feel of downtown. LA locals are amazed at how much the city has changed WItHIN THE PAST FIVE YEARS and it will only continue to do so. Downtown LA is reinterpreting the NY lifestyle with a California touch. it's amazing.
would i walk the streets at night alone? i've done it numerous times, even blackout drunk. ive never once had an incident. then again im not a 5'1 petite girl or some dorky looking scrawny white dude. if you think you would be a target based on your physical attributes, then I suggest walking in groups of 3 or 4 when going out late at night. not necessary, just a precautionary measure cause downtown is at the border of the gang neighborhoods of LA.
LA is the most beautiful city in the US. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. In fact, I'm extremely proud that I've stayed in LA and taught @ local schools my whole career. If you have other issues with moving to LA then reconsider, but stop talking about it being dangerous or shady or unattractive cause none of that is true

Re: Loyola LA - Has anyone heard back?
Alternate la perspective - I wouldn't walk around loyola's camps at night - I wouldn't do it much during the day - it is not really downtown either, its pre the growing part of dt, and dt isn't what a dt is for other cities.
There are lots of great places to live in la, from which loyola is a rather easy drive. If I attend ill be staying at my cool place right off sunset in weho with the pool/hot tub, walking distance to a cool hiking trail canyon and the sunset strip - la has a lot to offer - don't let the immediate area around loyola be your guide

Re: Loyola LA - Has anyone heard back?
Although downtown is reviving, Loyola is on the other side of 110 from the fun DT area. It's rather ghetto and dirty on that side. I only wish the law school was by the undergrad campus. I live in Venice so that would be an easy commute.ruleser wrote:Alternate la perspective - I wouldn't walk around loyola's camps at night - I wouldn't do it much during the day - it is not really downtown either, its pre the growing part of dt, and dt isn't what a dt is for other cities.

Status Checker changed saying that a decision has been made and that it has been mailed. Went complete 11/17. I hope this is my first acceptance of the cycle!

With those #s I'd expect she'll get $$$ from USC, maybe also UCLA.gymboree wrote:congrats, but with your numbers don't you have plans to go somewhere much higher ranked? not being snobby, just interested in how others are making their decisions this year ITE. Re: Loyola LA - Has anyone heard back?
I want to go to school in LA, and I don't care that much about rankings, so that's why I'm considering Loyola. If they gave me comparable scholarships, I'd probably choose USC or UCLA first, but it'll have to come down to budget in the end, so I'm excited for this scholly.ruleser wrote:With those #s I'd expect she'll get $$$ from USC, maybe also UCLA.gymboree wrote:congrats, but with your numbers don't you have plans to go somewhere much higher ranked? not being snobby, just interested in how others are making their decisions this year ITE.
