Damn, congrats! Anything similar and I'll be immediately withdrawing from GTown.
Thanks! I did the math and thats only 10K I would have to pay in tuition for the three years, so makes it much more attractive!
Dude, awesome, congrats!

Just notified via phone call! She said they mailed a packet a couple of days ago. Hopefully it is at home waiting for me :)

I checked my status checker like 10 min before they called and it didn't say anything new..
Congrats!

Did you guys get status checker emails, or just the "application requested and we cannot let you know when it comes in" email.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to become a resident if you aren't one already? I have this idea that out of staters have no shot in getting residency unless they are given it in the scholarship, but I could be wrong. Anyone have some info on this?

Obtaining TX residency is pretty difficult; their requirements are more severe than most states. I assume you probably didn't mean to imply this, but getting the resident-rate scholarship doesn't make you a TX resident.

Just got the financial aid letter. Dean's scholarship, $76,500 total over 3 years.

Puts tuition cost at about $45,000 total and total cost, with COL, around $80,000. Hopefully I can get a little more from them, though this means I'm definitely withdrawing from Georgetown this week.

FWIW, I have lived and worked in Texas for a year and a half or so, but I don't think I became a resident for tuition purposes until I bought a house and married my Texas-resident sig. other. I'm at work or I'd google it, but you typically need to own property/be married/something like it.

Edit: For those of you considering UT, are you all thinking about staying in TX long-term? Or what are your goals...

Got the same amount. Congrats to both of us!

My parents still note me as one of their dependents, so I don't think I'd qualify for need-based under their incomes, even though I'm paying for the whole thing myself. :(

I'd like to settle down in the Mountain West, probably Colorado. Texas has a great name in Denver, from the attorneys I've spoken with. Ideally, I'd love to teach, and UT has a much better track record than any other non-T10 school in placing into academia. I haven't spent tons of time in TX, so I'd have to see what Austin's like before I considered staying.

Probably staying for at least a little while:

- low CoL
- no state income tax
- its warm
- I love austin
I wouldn't mind staying in TX for the above noted reasons. I'm particularly fond of the museum district and the area around Rice in Houston.

So what is this Nonresident Tuition Exemption (NRTE) they reference in the scholarship letter? I got a $7K/year scholarship plus the $16K/year NRTE, for a total of $69K/three years. Is that what the rest of you who are saying you got $69K got as well?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
