Hmm, you give me hope, as your GPA is lower than mine...

Re: UCLA?
No, I didn't do anything special, although filling out their incredibly annoying application should count for some dedication. I even had to truncate my normal personal statement to meet their prissy 12-point 2-page requirement. I'm an older applicant, don't know if that makes me stand out or not, really.

Re: UCLA?
UCLA doesn't have a pure rolling-admissions system, meaning just because you sent in your application in October doesn't mean you'll necessarily hear back earlier (reject,accept,w/l) before someone who submits in march unless you're an ED applicant.Veritas wrote:I don't know if I'm frustrated, because I would KILL for an acceptance. I think so many people apply to UCLA that they can afford to ditch the rolling admissions procedure. That said, I think if UCLA changed the balance of their GPA/LSAT component (more weight on the LSAT) and opened up their early decision program like UVA, then they could definitely boost their LSAT medians past 170.

honestly i don't know how UCLA hasn't broken past GULC in the rankings.jay115 wrote:UCLA doesn't have a pure rolling-admissions system, meaning just because you sent in your application in October doesn't mean you'll necessarily hear back earlier (reject,accept,w/l) before someone who submits in march unless you're an ED applicant.Veritas wrote:I don't know if I'm frustrated, because I would KILL for an acceptance. Re: UCLA?
Definitely not an expert on rankings, but my ignorant take on it is that they seem to have an east coast bias. Every school around DC is T1 - GULC/GW/American/GMU/WandL/WandM, even Marlyand if you count T50 as T1. Could just be more legal ops back east b/c New York/DC, or that since all those schools have existed much longer they have much deeper ingrained rep scores.managamy wrote:+a lot. Re: UCLA?
FWIW I would prolly pick UCLA over Cornell if both were at sticker, and maybe even Northwestern and Virginia if there's scholly money.Havaianas wrote:You should definitely include UVA in that group of top schools near DC. GULC does seem to have an amazingly sturdy reputation for sure. Although I would've picked UCLA over GULC as well.
(i'm biased, however, because I'm concerned with West coast placement)

Re: UCLA?
UCLA has only been around for a little over 50 years whereas some T14 schools have been around for 200 year - 150 more years is a long time to establish firm connections, clerkships, reputation, etc. Of course time isn't everything as Albany law is quite old and sucks balls.
However, I do think UCLA (like other West/Southern schools) are growing past their competitors - IMO, I think Stanford will surpass Yale (I think Leiter also said this but don't take my word for it) within the next couple decades, and UVA/Texas/UCLA/Vandy/Emory and other like schools will continue to strengthen past their peer institutions as the economy and population shifts from the Northeast to the South and West.

Re: UCLA?
Veritas I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I'm definitely a borderline applicant, submitted app 10/29 and complete less than a week later. I haven't heard anything, no ding/WL so far, even though the second big round of the shitstorm seems to have passed. According to LSN, people as far out as Massachusetts have received ding/WL letters by 1/22 the latest, so I think I should have received my letter in the bigger Chicago area sooner or at least by this Saturday. Still nothing. Hope it means we're safe for now and they're seriously considering us (as opposed to our letters having been lost in the mail, which I honestly still think is unlikely and doesn't happen as often as some OCD people here would like us to think)Veritas wrote:

I am seriously shocked. People with my # have been rejected for the most part, with some lucky few being waitlisted. UCLA, if you take me, I swear, I will love you forever and tell of your greatness in looking past the numbers. Amen.

...UCLA is such a distant lover.
I need to make CA work, I'm not going back to the cold (unless MICH<3 comes a knocking)

Re: UCLA?
Please don't take this the wrong way (I'm no managamy), but I'm just really puzzled at the complete silence from UCLA. Are there others out there with multiple T14 admits who were complete mid November (or earlier) and still haven't heard anything?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
