UCI 2010

Post by protokurios » Fri Oct 02, 2009 3:33 pm

I just submitted my app to UCI for kicks, knowing that the 2nd entering class will probably get jack squat in terms of scholarships. Took more work than I thought to get my personal statement down to 500 words, hahaha. And I had to scramble to get the 3rd LOR.

Who else has applied or will apply? I wonder what kind of people will apply and get accepted this year...

I'll be applying. After getting rejected last cycle I'm not sure what to expect now, but I really like the UCI mission so I'll try again with a fresh application and a new (hopefully much higher) LSAT. 8)

Because UCI isn't accredited, some people are posting around that they're worried that they won't be able to transfer out if a) they do well enough to move up (eg. Boalt, Stanford); or b) they don't like it after all.

Couldn't care less, myself. Couldn't care about the $ either. Love the idea of the program, love the faculty. Applying.

Actually, according to an admissions officer, UCI is going to be extremely generous in regards to scholarship.

Yeah, there's still gonna be loads of scholarships given out to this year's class. The administration is well-aware of what they have to do to get quality incoming classes for the first few years until USNWR takes a look at them. The inaugural class' full ride is costing about 6 million, but the school has recieved donations of about 30 million. I'm sure not all of that is going to scholarships, but they're not exactly broke or anything.

I am in for it. The more I research UCI, the more I am convinced it is the right school for me.

I submitted an app on opening day.

Speaking of, the only email I have received is one telling me my app is in... has anyone received any emails past that?

Quick update on scholarships for the Class of 2013:

No final decisions have been made, but the administration is hoping to offer everyone admitted something between a 50% and full scholarship, presumably depending where their stats fall relative to the medians and all that usual stuff. Again, that's not confirmed or definitely happening. Obviously some sort of announcement will be made if/when they determine that they can offer at least 1/2 tuition to anyone who gets in. But that's the plan...

I've only gotten the automatic "Your application has been submitted" but nothing else. I emailed them 4 days ago asking them about the status, and they haven't emailed me back.

No way! UCI Will no break into the top 30 for at least another 5-7 years I think, and the reason being that US News places so much value in assessment by people in the field. It will take some time for UCI to get good evaluations from judges and lawyers. Without points in these categories, the HIGHEST it can go--even with its ridiculously high LSAT and GPA medians for its inaugural class is ~60 points, which puts it in the mid-30s.

I imagine anyone who would get in at Berkeley would get more than the 50% min. scholarship... and anyone with the numbers for Stanford would probably get full ride offers at a lot of established top schools and so it wouldn't really make a difference anyway.

I would consider Irvine over Berkeley if it was a full-ride...but Stanford...probably not haha.

I also got the "application received" email but no follow up...and it's been a while. I emailed them yesterday asking for a status update, and haven't gotten any reply. Grrrr.

last year they were really, really slow getting information out. Don't expect too much.

Do you know around what month they start sending out notices? Jan/Feb/March?

I just called the admissions office and apparently, there is no way to definitively know your application is complete - all you can do is make sure LSAC sent your report. He told me there is no way to look up individual files to check if they were complete  But I'm assuming they'd contact the applicant if something was missing from the file?

Yea I emailed with someone in the admissions office and she said that if you were missing something they would contact you.
