Applied. What's the worst that could happen?

Oh, right, I'm out $97. Shoot.

Just got an email from Harvard giving me access to a site (online application status checker) which I can now check compulsively :D

Me too! Next step will be recieving the "Complete" update, which will allow us to obsess about whether or not we will recieve a phone call... or, indeed, whether HLS is even still doing those this year.

Why are people who obviously don't have the numbers applying? You're just feeding their yield by letting them reject you.

Why are you who obviously don't have a stake in this complaining? You're just feeding the perception that you're a douche.

Since when is asking a question complaining? I am truly wondering why people who are in the red at LSN with no special softs or URM status apply to HLS.

Get the pine cone out of your ass kid.

Well, you only think we lack special softs or URM status :) Anyway, it really anyone's prerogative to apply, whether or not they have "the numbers." What's it to you whether someone with low numbers applies?

Again, I have no personal stake. I also don't have a stake when I see homeless people eating paint chips, or a myriad of other futile/self-destructive endeavours one may encounter in life, but I would at least have to ask out of curiousity.

In this case, I guess I just see it as flushing cash down the toilet and part of me wants to stop people from wasting money, so I'm wondering what the opposing view is? Is it just to say you did it? is it because you think you have a .00001% chance? I don't know, but I asked. And got this Capercaillie character jumping down my throat for it.

LOL yea I didn't really understand Caper's comment. I would just think that people with slightly less-than-apt numbers apply either because they have an LSAC fee waiver or softs they're not sharing or they can't live with the "what if I had applied" if they didn't apply. Something along those lines. It's like the people who eat paint chips because they have pica, not because they're just being random :) Everyone has their reasons and their respective definitions of "self-destructive" behavior; a shot in the dark might just be that, and nothing worse for many.

I'm sorry for my comment, it's just that, in this case, I guess I just saw your question as a distasteful attack on those defenseless few with low numbers and part of me wanted to prevent them from being assailed upon unfairly by a petulant douche bag. So I was left wondering why you hadn't yet expunged the whole fucking, coniferous forrest you had stuck deep inside your ass.

Maybe for the same reason people play the lottery? You just never know what adcoms will think of your application. Also, I don't think most applicants worry too much about feeding yield, but that is just speculation.
