I'll be waiting this one out as long as it takes. I'm a splitter so things are up in the air, but here's hoping it works out with Penn.

Those are some crazy stats! Glad to see another hopeful. It makes the waiting process less intense haha. What have you done/are you planning to do to get off the waitlist? Do you have a backup school?heresthesitch wrote:I'll be waiting this one out as long as it takes. I'm a splitter so things are up in the air, but here's hoping it works out with Penn.

I visited to hand in my LOCI right after being waitlisted (happened to be in Philly that weekend anyways, Philly's worth the trip regardless
) and they said they're very busy and can't meet with anyone until the meetings they mentioned for mid May. I've heard those meetings aren't evaluative, and you'll be the one asking lots of questions, but showing one's interest couldn't hurt. I don't know if it's worth doing one really, but I'd love to meet with them anyways.

UPenn is interesting - they don't do official meetings for waitlisted students (though like any school, you can visit at any time). However, at the start of May you can request a waitlisted students meeting where you talk to someone on admissions. As the previous poster said, these meetings are described as non-evaluative. However, I would say that if you are serious about getting off the waitlist, that you do one these meetings. From reading previous threads about UPenn waitlists, nearly everybody eventually accepted off the waitlist went to one of these meetings (some having more positive experiences than others), and at the very least it shows you're seriously interested.16to19 wrote:Has anyone tried planning a visit while on waitlist? didn't say anything about them in the form letter.

Visited the university relatively recently. You can take a self-guided tour at any point but yeah, you can't meet with anyone officially. You can speak to whoever you run into, though.

All the way, baby! Penn has just about everything I'm looking for, and I got to visit recently and loved it.Anonnonnon wrote:Nice. How long you gonna be ridin' this here train?PlanetExpress wrote:Checking in.
I'll echo the statements of others here: admissions wasn't able to handle any visits in the office from waitlists yet, but I was told about their in-person and over-Skype interviews that should happen aroind mid-May. Apparently email to come by the end of the month with more info.

For all those wondering around how many open spots are left at Penn Law (before any May deposit deadlines - so numbers may be rough):
According to Lawschoolnumbers, around 243 students matriculate
In the Official Class of 2019 Penn Law Facebook page, there are currently 206 members.

Thoughts on the waitlist update email? Any idea when they will start making offers?

Checking in.
Just got an email saying that "The Admissions Committee has completed our review of all candidates on the waitlist," although I'm not really sure what that means.

The same sentence stuck out to me. I'm signed and sold on Duke and so will be withdrawing from the Penn w/l very shortly. But I thought this was interesting enough to check up on TLS for. I assume it means that they've finalized all the offers to the w/l they intend to send, but the language makes it sound like it means the w/l is already evaluated and ranked, I'm not sure what the value add in a LOCI/interview/trip to Penn would be. Oddly imprecise language for a group of people trained in the law.bmrlaw wrote:Checking in.

Just got the waitlist update email as well!! Interesting line about the commitee having already reviewed their waitlisted applicants...I suppose that means they stopped sending out straight acceptances a while ago. If the data from facebook is anything to go by, I suppose we are looking at around 30-35 waitlist admits.
Do you guys think it's prudent to respond to the waitlist update email with a simple "thank you for your consideration?" Or is that not really needed in this instance, since it really is a generic update?
Also if you guys wanna do a waitlisted student visit - sign up quick. Once timeslots are gone, they're gone!!

The whole email is confusing. I'm still unsure if I should take the time to send in additional material or they've already decided who they'll be accepting.TLSDookie wrote:The same sentence stuck out to me. Email mentioned interviews? I was under the impression Penn didnt do interviews?

I heard that they've called people from the waitlist and asked them if they're still interested and why they're interested etc. I'm not sure if that counts as an interview though.Susurrus wrote:Email mentioned interviews? I was under the impression Penn didnt do interviews?

This is most likely what is meant by the interviews stated in the email - source: Past waitlist threads on TLS.bmrlaw wrote:I heard that they've called people from the waitlist and asked them if they're still interested and why they're interested etc. I'm not sure if that counts as an interview though.Susurrus wrote:Email mentioned interviews? Is anyone gonna write a LOCI to this waitlist email update (whether it be 3 sentences saying thank you or longer)? I don't think I will, simply because it doesn't seem prudent and because signing up for a waitlisted students meeting seems to show my interest anyway
Also, just to say it again - spots to visit upenn and meet with admissions are limited and first come - sign up now if you want them!

Re: University of Pennsylvania WAITLIST c/o 2019 (2015-2016)
In case anyone can speak to this oddity or is worried about their own situation, I was worried to see mention of a wait list email from Penn knowing I didn't have anything in my inbox (or spam or anything). I logged into the Application Status site and saw this mentioned under mailings:
"Wait List Update Email - Initial 04/25/2016"
Maybe their mail-merge or whatnot is just taking its sweet time, but in case you're concerned (like I initially was) know that you're not the only one and it's not something to panic about.
Good luck to all those joining me in waiting!

It looks like for Penn, people started receiving feeler calls on April 30th (last year, according to last year's TLS thread), and May 6th (two years ago, according to the 2014 TLS thread)
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
