Thanks for making the thread, went complete 10-2. Live in Atlanta and want to stay, will likely be making a decision between UGA and Emory.

International applicant checking in here. Going to try and solicit a fee waiver after October LSAT score is released.
OP, lets get some great pics of Atlanta up soon.

I applied the first week of Sep. I have not heard a peep from Emory. Nothing.

Ditto here - I applied in August. Where do you guys find the status checker?
Unless something has changed, there isn't one. You'll get emails when complete and when under review, and that's about it.

I don't think there is a status checker.
This is what i got from emory one day after applying:
"Thank you for applying to Emory Law’s Class of 2019. We have received your application, and we are currently preparing it for review for our admission committee. If all parts of your application are complete, you will receive an additional note from us shortly that your file has entered the review phase."
and then:
Thank you for submitting your application to Emory University School of Law. This email confirms that your application is complete.

Looking at LSN it seems first acceptances went out around the middle of January last cycle. Personally, I was a rather late applicant, and my turnaround was about two weeks, if memory serves.

I said, "Hopefully I hear back a little sooner than that!" but apparently they didn't think that was funny....
Haha!
Emory is losing points.

If anyone has some good pictures of the building, library, or Atlanta in general, send them my way!

That graph - solid green to the right of a wall of waitlisted 164s, with more green to the left. Seems odd. If your GPA is over 3.7 you're in! (unless you got a 164, then screw you!)

I think its more interesting to note that as long as your LSAT is at median, then you are good to go, provided that your GPA is above 3.0. Checking the actual graph on My LSN, it seems as if most of the lower GPA applicants who were accepted with median LSATs (165) were also non-URM. Interesting.

I didn't look at the actual graph on LSN. It could be that URM accounts for the high GPA, sub-165 green. I've just never seen a graph where everyone (except for, apparently, one lucky person) who had a score just one point under median was waitlisted.

Checking in. Not having to move and my wife keeping her current job makes Emory an attractive option.

Interested in this as well. I haven't submitted my app yet and I'm wondering if its worth it/ could help during scholly negotiation.

I don't recall a Why Emory essay last year, but there was a very firm stance against negotiation by admissions. During ASW I mentioned the offer of a Dean's Fellowship from WUSTL complicating my decision of where to attend and received a congratulations and a reminder Emory doesn't negotiate. I do, however, believe someone claimed a scholarship bump due to their Woodruff app.

I actually called them after posing the original question. The admissions office informed me that they want to see an applicants' interest in Emory come through in their personal statement rather than a separate essay.
I'm still curious whether or not people have had success (ie. being admitted) after having written a why X essay.

I just submitted the same ps to Emory that I submitted with other apps. Don't they usually stipulate in the directions if they want something specific? (Perhaps they did and I overlooked it).

It was a pretty general PS prompt from what I remember. I'll check last years thread to see what people submitted. If there are any re-applicants ITT, please feel red to chime in.
