Checking in! Does W&M place well in DC or is it mainly restricted to Richmond and greater VA?

Checking in! Admitted last cycle but sat out.
Also I solicited a fee waiver, they're very nice!

I can answer questions about life in Thrilliamsburg generally and some about WM specifically, if anyone is interested.

I will be applying to William and Mary this week and would love if you could just tell me about the atmosphere there and what life is like in Williamsburg!

So Williamsburg is a medium size college town. In the summer months there's also a decent tourist crowd because of colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens.janderson821 wrote:Dcc617 wrote:I can answer questions about life in Thrilliamsburg generally and some about WM specifically, if anyone is interested.

Williamsburg is pretty quiet, even right off campus. There are a lot of older rich people nearby. On week days the town is largely shut down by ten. The only things nearby that stays open for late night food runs are like Wendy's and Wawa (WM people love that Wawa. It has decent subs).
As far as nightlife, it's a lot better than it used to be. When I lived there it only had three delis (bars but not called bars because of zoning laws), but there has been a huge push to add cool places to drink in the last couple years. That being said, there are still pretty limited options within walking distance of campus. Pretty much Richmond Road or drink at home.
All that being said, I loved living in Williamsburg. It can get kind of boring sometimes, but it's beautiful and most of the time it's not too hard to find something to do. Doubly so if you have a car and are mobile. The Hampton Roads area is alright. There are some nice beaches nearby, and Richmond is only about a 45 minute drive.
As far as the atmosphere of the school, I can't speak for the law school, but for undergrad it's basically embracing being smart and kind of nerdy. Not to say that everyone is an awkward social outcast. Awkward social outcasts go there, but are a minority group. Most people are really nice and somewhat outgoing. My particular group of friends were a little dumber than the mean though. There are also a ton of organizations to get involved with. You should try to play rugby with the school's club team.
Sorry if this was scatterbrained. If I didn't quite answer what you wanted you can ask me more stuff. WM is pretty cool.

Me too, same situation. I'm over both medians, but I don't feel all that confident for some reason. Reading through the the UVA thread yesterday makes me hope that the quick decision becomes an "all schools in VA" thing.

I know my perception is skewed because a couple of schools have already accepted a few TLSers, but I'm already getting nervous.

I just checked my application status checker and under requirements it lists:
"Seat Deposit Received
Official UG Transcript Received
Health Form
Photo"
Has anyone else seen this? Has anyone been admitted yet? I need to know!

Mine says that as well. I assumed that "UG transcript received" would be checked. Doesn't that go out with the CAS report? My status hasn't changed since 9-2.lawandorder2019 wrote:I just checked my application status checker and under requirements it lists:

I went complete 9/3 but I don't remember my requirements list being this. I was under the impression they only need these items if we're accepted.Scalvert wrote:Mine says that as well. Well, that would be awesome! I didn't notice it at first either. I noticed it maybe three days ago and just assumed it had been there all along and I just didn't see it.lawandorder2019 wrote:I went complete 9/3 but I don't remember my requirements list being this. According to last year's thread, people saw those boxes then got the email the next morning. So let's hope for good news tomorrow!

I don't have useful information regarding W&M, but I can respond regarding some of this. Seat deposit is for admitted students. Official UG Transcript, while sent in your application materials, is also required for matriculation into the school (yes, you have to send another one straight to the school). Health form is likely due to health insurance requirements. Photo is likely for a student ID.Scalvert wrote:Mine says that as well. I assumed that "UG transcript received" would be checked. Soooo, while I don't want to jump the gun, I think it's safe to assume that "congratulations" are in order.

Applied late last cycle (January) & was wait listed here. Not sure if I should apply again...although their fee waiver is enticing.

Ok, I'm trying not to get too excited, this would be my first acceptance! Hope my presence in this doesn't screw it up for everyone else - whatever line I'm in at the grocery store is always the slowest, whichever lane I switch to immediately grinds to a halt; maybe my luck is changing.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
