Berkeley Law c/o 2018 Waitlist
Don't think this exists yet and starting it makes me feel like I'm actually doing something to get off the waitlist. Anyone else out there?

Waiting as well from 1st quartile. Would love Cali as it is my home state, but already deposited another T14 offering some money and rather more impressive employment stats. Depends on whether grants are available.

1st quartile as well. Also deposited at a T14, but would love to stay in state in CA.malibustacy wrote:Waiting as well from 1st quartile. Re: Berkeley Law c/o 2018 Waitlist
Looks like this went out to accepted students today.
We are writing to inform you that the Berkeley Law scholarship consideration and awarding process is now complete.
We are no longer considering scholarship applications, nor making any new scholarship offers.
If you have not already been offered a scholarship, no scholarship offer is forthcoming.
We are no longer accepting Matching Scholarship applications and will not consider any further requests for matching, nor will we reconsider offers we've already made.
If you have received an award (Matching Scholarship, Dean's Fellowship, named scholarship, etc.) your award offer is final. We will not increase existing scholarship offers.
We are still accepting requests to defer admission. If you are granted a deferment and have a scholarship offer, you will automatically be allowed to defer the scholarship, too.
Thank you for your patience during our scholarship review process.
Due to the fact that it wasn't sent to us on the waitlist, I'm going to irrationally conclude that there may be money available for us if we are lucky enough to even get off.

Hmm... kinda off-putting email. I'm going to rationally conclude that they are out of money.

Bumping what seems to be the deadest T14 waitlist thread. Anyone out there?

Just remarking on how few of us there are on this WL compared to others. If this was an accurate reflection of the size of B's waitlist, I like our odds.

Re: Berkeley Law c/o 2018 Waitlist
Well, Berkeley's waitlist is traditionally rather small, although it seems they have put slightly more people on it this year than years past (380 this year compared to 300 or so normally). This may possibly be to compensate for the uncertainty of admissions this year with record low numbers of top LSAT scorers applying.
Now, the question is how many people Berkeley took in the first place, and how many people accepted their offer. Also there is the question of how much of a trickle-down effect there is going to be as the T14 finalize their classes through deposits, waitlists and whatnot.
My wild, wild speculation? The other T14 schools greatly stepped up their financial aid game, and Berkeley was caught somewhat flat footed this year. It seems that there's not much money to go around, and I personally know of people who wouldn't even consider Berkeley over peer schools due to the amount of their grants. I am somewhat cautiously optimistic about my chances from the 1st Quartile, but grant amount will play a factor in my decision as well, as I have already deposited a T14 offering money and frankly better Big Law + Clerkship percentages.

That sounds like some good wild speculation. Care to weigh in on how close to June 1st we may hear anything? I think they'll need a minute. Harvard seems to have already started to take some people off their waitlist, Stanford not so much. I'm assuming these are the waitlists people are waiting to hear about before they fully commit

Judging by LSN I think Berkeley increased its aid over previous years.malibustacy wrote:Well, Berkeley's waitlist is traditionally rather small, although it seems they have put slightly more people on it this year than years past (380 this year compared to 300 or so normally). Re: Berkeley Law c/o 2018 Waitlist
Another TLSer posted an e-mail from Berkeley stating they ran out of aid last month and will not be negotiating or rewarding new scholarships.Boredlaw wrote:Judging by LSN I think Berkeley increased its aid over previous years.malibustacy wrote:Well, Berkeley's waitlist is traditionally rather small, although it seems they have put slightly more people on it this year than years past (380 this year compared to 300 or so normally). * it's just cautious optimism. we're aware of the email that went out. we're just hoping that bc waitlisted peeps didn't get that email, we'll have some money to go around - perhaps from those who were awarded schollies but have taken offers elsewhere or w.e. it seems like berk was a top choice for the few of us in here, so we're just sticking it out and hoping for some good news. at the same time, we understand that we might have to just settle for our other options.

Getting antsy, though I know they need the week to see where their deposits all shook out. Did you guys heed their email and not send follow-up emails/LOCI/materials? Or did you?

I didn't send a LOCI. I feel if they specifically tell people to not send one, those are pretty clear instructions right there.lokikoala wrote:Getting antsy, though I know they need the week to see where their deposits all shook out. As for the waitlist shakedown, I'm sure it'll take a few days. See 2012 group for reference.
