I will stay on WL. I have a feeling that I will qualify for need-based. For me, if it's Stanford, I answer the call. It seems like the happiest place on earth.

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
I'd ride it out til halfway through the first semester if I was able. I want Stanford so badly that I don't care about a broken lease or moving costs. I'm seriously contemplating not even committing to a school this year to try Stanford again next year if I get dinged.hellomellow wrote:who would remain on the wl if they got on it?

I feel the exact same way. I don't know if I'm making a mistake feeling this way when they haven't even said anything yet...goldenflash19 wrote:I'd ride it out til halfway through the first semester if I was able. I would ride out the waitlist till the end. I'm also not sure about the east to west coast move, but for Stanford I'd make it work. Did you hear that, Faye?

In for the long haul. Btw, this thread was on a steep downward slope into a pit of utter despair. Now it's rather cheery. So, it basically matches my daily mood swings since I applied to law schools.hellomellow wrote:who would remain on the wl if they got on it?

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
I would definitely stay on until the end. Although SLS usually has so little WL movement that it's generally just a rejection with a slight nod that says "we didn't actually hate your application".
Hopefully Faye has all of our files out along with her phone so this is a moot point.

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
So I went through a pretty dark phase of feeling like this (bolded) not too long ago. Retaking isn't an option for me, and the rest of my application isn't likely to improve much at all if I waited another cycle-the only difference would be that I could submit on the day apps opened instead of in December like I did this time. However, given that the early application boost at Stanford seems to be relatively minimal, I doubt reapplying (in my specific situation) would boost my chances enough to make it worth sticking it out at a fairly dead-end job for another year.goldenflash19 wrote: I'd ride it out til halfway through the first semester if I was able. I also had someone close to me tell me in no uncertain terms that if I was feeling THIS down about my cycle because I didn't get into my top choice (Stanford) when I was accepted at Harvard and when I have decent $$ at other great schools, then that's a sure sign that I am way too close to the process. And it's true-I think it's easy to get caught up in the TLS hivemind, and it can be tough to keep an objective view of your cycle and its successes.
Perhaps waiting a cycle and reapplying if you don't get S this time is the right choice for you, but if you know anyone involved with the legal market who isn't on TLS, I would recommend trying to talk to them about it to get a more objective take on your situation.
That said,

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
Just that it's objectively a bit ridiculous to be so deeply disappointed-to the point of considering taking another year off for a non K-JD with a meh job-over not getting Stanford when I've been accepted to schools (Harvard, for example) that many people only dream of attending.EquallyWrong wrote:what do you mean by this? or rather, what is it you imagine this lawyer would advise?koalacity wrote:if you know anyone involved with the legal market who isn't on TLS, I would recommend trying to talk to them about it to get a more objective take on your situation.
Again, I'm not saying that it might not be the right choice for goldenflash to wait out another cycle and try again for S. But it's not like we're debating the value of going to a T20 at sticker this cycle over retaking/reapplying and waiting a cycle in hopes of getting into Stanford. For some of us, it's debating turning down Harvard and/or significant $$ in the T14 and waiting a cycle for another shot at Stanford.
eta: I should add here that I visited Harvard's ASW and loved it. If I had hated Harvard's ASW and/or had hated the ASW of other schools I've received $$ at, waiting out another cycle would be a much more reasonable decision.

Re: Stanford c/o 2017 (2013-2014 applicants)
Thanks a lot for the advice. It's nice to have someone I can relate to on this. Almost everyone- both the few people in the legal market and the tons of people outside it- I have talked with agree that it's an objectively bad decision to not attend law school next year if I don't get Stanford. Stanford is just perfect, though, and is a combination of the two schools I'm considering, Berkeley and Harvard. I also hit up the Harvard ASW and loved it, but I'm legitimately petrified of being stuck in New York with 200K of loans. I was just kinda toying with the idea of not going, but thanks for pulling me back down to earth. My application isn't likely to change much, especially not to the point where it'd be worth burning bridges. Hopefully we all get into Stanford and this is just a moot point.koalacity wrote:So I went through a pretty dark phase of feeling like this (bolded) not too long ago.
