Squadoosh. Disappointed, but not too surprised (~Median LSAT, >75% GPA). Since we had to fill out Need Access, I assume that means this includes need-based awards. How generous is NYU with their matching scholarship program? I'll negotiate with my modest Chicago $, but in all likelihood I'll be heading there now.

Dean's Award at 62.5/75 PI. This decision is getting easier, especially with NYU showing sincere interest by accepting my app quickly, while the T5 has been putzing around staring blankly at my app for 3 months now.
Anyone know if NYU would be willing to match a scholly from UMich?

You got more than 75K from Michigan? I thought that was their max outside of the Darrow.brogoc wrote:Dean's Award at 62.5/75 PI. Got 67.5 from Michigan. Probably won't be doing PI so it will exceed NYU's scholarship. Not sure if asking for an extra 5k is even worth it though.ahnhub wrote:You got more than 75K from Michigan? The worst thing that can happen is they'll say no. However, if they say yes, you've just saved yourself $5,000 possibly... Five grand is five grand, whether you make that money by negotiating a scholarship or if someone comes up to you and hands you that amount, you've still made $5,000 all the same. I say go for it.brogoc wrote:Got 67.5 from Michigan. Probably won't be doing PI so it will exceed NYU's scholarship. $37.5k ($45k with PI work) . I got more than twice that from a T20; does anyone think that sort of money from a T20 is a strong enough bargaining chip?RonnyDworkin wrote:FryBreadPower wrote:Just got my financial award posted. This definitely changes things....

So just to confirm, there are still people who didn't get a letter yet right? As far as I'm aware, I'm not under consideration for any big named schollys but I received no emails today either. Thanks!

Re: In at NYU: Class of 2015...New Poll!
Has anyone gotten an unexpectedly low $$ amount based on their numbers, possibly because of parents income?
I'm kinda worried because my parents income is well above $250k, but they're not about to hand me $100k+ for school either. I'm above 75th for GPA but only slightly above the median for LSAT, so I'd like to see some money, but just not sure how much my family is going to hurt me.
Also I just got my FAFSA/NA in Monday so it might be a little bit until I know.

This happened to my friend at another school. NYU would most likely have no idea about your financial situation if you just put fafsa in, so I wouldn't assume it's about your parents income bracket. Perhaps you could call or email to ask about this? Was this merit aid or financial? With an income that high I don't think you'll be getting anything in the way of financial aid.StrictlyBusiness wrote:Has anyone gotten an unexpectedly low $$ amount based on their numbers, possibly because of parents income?

Got 50K/ 60K if I do PI. I was a ED applicant with okay/splittish numbers. So there is hope for EDers at NYU.

Just sent in FAFSA and Needs Access this week so I haven't gotten any sort of response yet, I'm just speculating on how much parents income really matters for merit money. I certainly don't expect anything for "need" money, but NYU makes it seem like we'll be evaluated apart from our parents for merit. Color me skeptical on that, but we shall see.avd90 wrote:This happened to my friend at another school. Re: In at NYU: Class of 2015...New Poll!
I just got $62500/$75000, and based on parents' financials, I'd expect that to be $0 if not for merit $$$. I don't really see why they would take parents into account when assessing merit scholarships --- it's about wooing people away from other schools, and they realize that even people with wealthy parents are likely footing the bill for law school themselves.StrictlyBusiness wrote:Just sent in FAFSA and Needs Access this week so I haven't gotten any sort of response yet, I'm just speculating on how much parents income really matters for merit money. In other news: for someone dead set on PI, is $75000 enough to made me consider NYU against Harvard? I'm not extremely debt-averse if PI support & loan forgiveness programs are strong. And from the quick look I've given NYU's LRAP program, it seems slightly less wonderful than Harvard's. Any thoughts?

So for any named scholarship applicants (like myself) who were freaking out yesterday after not receiving any letters with offers- I called finaid just now, and they said that they cannot release our offers until admissions lets them know if we will be receiving interviews or not. That release should be in their hands by early next week at the latest, at which point they will be able to send out our offers in the next batch (early next week).
