Looks like "heading home in time to watch the Final Four" is in the lead.

Yeah... I'm not too happy about those particular trustees demanding that a black coach be hired. I agree that a black coach should have been hired at some point in Illinois' history, but they can't just say 'Okay, we can only look at black candidates.' Their first candidate was black and he turned down 21 million to coach here so I'm not sure what else Illinois is really supposed to do.

Re: UIUC 2015
I have currently been accepted into UIUC for fall 2012 with a scholarship. I would like to get some input to help me make a decision on whether I should attend UIUC. I am about to complete my MS in engineering in June and I plan to work in the IP field when I graduate from law school. Also, I would like to work for a big patent firm in NYC, but wouldn't mind working in Chicago.
I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple other schools that are ranked higher, but I'm not too optimistic. Currently UIUC is the best school that I have gotten into to.
What are your opinions on the IP program/classes? Also, given than IP is a fairly specific field, is it necessary for me to finish in the top 10% to get a big law job?
Other schools: WL at fordham and wustl, in at cardozo, uga and temple
Thanks for your time

Re: UIUC 2015
The IP kids in my class ('13) did extremely well. One of the big advantages is that you can go to patent fairs which start earlier in the summer, so a lot of the IP people had offers before OCI even started. One of my good friends who was an engineer before law school got tons of callbacks in almost every market imaginable and ended up going with a firm in Chicago that pays above market. You can be outside the top 10%. How far outside the top 10% though I'm not sure. You probably still need to be at least in the top third. But it's definitely an advantage.
As far as IP classes, I haven't heard any complaints. I've taken copyright and it's a great class. But I wouldn't let specific programs or classes influence your decision. I think Illinois is a clear winner over the other schools you're in at so far.

WL'd.
Can't believe it. Very disappointed.
Mine is the lone yellow dot in the sea of green hovering around 164/3.7 on LSN.

Jeez, that's hard to believe. Did you apply late in the cycle? With that many people accepted in your range my only guess is that they've simply met their quota at this point.EMAW12 wrote:WL'd.

If this were the issue you'd probably be rejected and not just WL.in2win wrote:Character and fitness
If your C&F is so bad that it makes a difference, then schools wouldn't even consider you even if they needed one more seat to fill. More than likely this just means that you either weren't attractive enough, or they just don't have enough room.
UIUC extended itself pretty far this cycle. I think the office probably panicked, thought that they'd have a tougher time convincing students to come because of the scandal and didn't bother thinking about their yield.
Don't take it too hard. Every person I've met applying this cycle had to disclose something on their C&F. We live in a society that is struggling to balance last century's criminal system with this century's societal norms. Fact is that few people have squeaky clean records. I don't think that this was why you were WL.

Hey Gail, where can I find more info on how liberal UIUC has been with acceptances?Gail wrote:If this were the issue you'd probably be rejected and not just WL.in2win wrote:Character and fitness

I talked to admissions and that's what I came away with.diegoforlan10 wrote: Hey Gail, where can I find more info on how liberal UIUC has been with acceptances?
It makes sense to me though. Look at LSN between this year and the last couple of years. It's almost a completely different school. I think they may have gone in some order with reviews. That's why there was some massive "hold list" and they just accepted a lot of people when they could get around to it.
This is an inference though. I could be wrong.

I drove to UIUC from Kansas last week, which is not a short drive at all, to meet with them and get a tour. I was expecting to get in off the hold, especially considering my numbers relative to others' on LSN. When I met with them, they said that C and F was an issue with me (no felonies or drug charges or anything like that). I explained myself and she told me to send a LOCI addressing that to the rest of the admissions council, which I did.
Like I said, I really can't believe it. Very disappointing. I really wanted to go there.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
