Thanks for taking some questions. I have a few to get us started.

How are the prospects looking for a 2L on LR? Does IU-Indy have much of an OCi in the fall?

How are the facilities? Finally, how are the housing options around the area?

I visited and can speak to the facilities. They're FREAKING AMAZING. So awesome I had a hard time focusing on much else about the school. But according to everyone it won't matter what the classrooms are like a week into law school, so long as you have a desk to study on, and an outlet for your computer I suppose.

The law school facilities are very nice. New, modern, etc. The rest of campus is kind of hit or miss, though there are several other nice buildings. Ex. the weight room equipment has probably been around since the 1950's.

Job prospects are OK, though the economy is obviously tough. I've been lucky enough to secure paid work for my 1L summer, 2L year, and 2L summer. I know others on LR who have worked, and will work, for the big names in town (Barnes, Baker, Krieg, etc.) It is competitive though. You probably need to finish within the top 10-20% to be in a good spot.

Are there any part time students on LR? Is class rank for PT students lumped into class rank with FT students? I assume the PT students don't really even get looked at in the recruiting process, correct?

Yes, there are part time students on LR. Quite a few actually. That's because part time and full time students are a part of the same class rank after part time students hit 31 hours.

Not correct about PT students not getting looked at in the recruiting process. I'm not sure how they've faired as a whole, but I know a couple that have gotten looks at some of the bigger firms. Plus, part time really only matters for the first year as far as I know. After that, PT students can go full time and finish in three years. So, really no major distinction except it takes them a bit longer to get to 31 credits and onto LR.

My status updated to today's date. That's the third update. It couldn't possibly have anymore, right? So that means decision any day now??? Come on Indy, throw me a bone.

Although LSAC finally sent out my first semester transcript yesterday, so that could be a reason.

I applied on 1/17, complete on 1/26, and no further movement. I had a 2.68 gpa and a 160 LSAT and I applied for PT, think I have a shot?

For PT, I think you're money. Definitely a shot at FT IMO

Yeah, submitted 10/25, complete forever ago, and some movement with no idea what it means. I visited a few weeks ago though and they said I should have a decision in a few weeks, which would be...now.

Status date changed to today's date as well. I can't remember if it has changed in the past or how many times, but I'm hoping this means I'll be getting a decision soon. Good luck to all those still waiting!

Has anyone heard of being able to work in Chicago after attending school at IU-Indy? I hope to get into a chicago school but if I get in at IU-indy I wouldn't say it is bad bc my boyfriends family is in Indiana and I have been there numerous times and feel like I know it pretty well!

I wish they'd hurry up and sent out decisions already!!!!

Agreed! This is one of the schools I've been waiting to hear the longest from, and one I'm dying to get an answer from!

It is vastly unlikely. I know of one IU-Indy grad that works in Chicago. Story goes like this: Graduated ~#2 in his/her class, clerked for the Indiana Supreme Court. One of the justices became a judge in Chicago, brought him/her with him. Eventually set him/her up at big-law in Chicago.

Chicago is oversaturated with law schools and lawyers. When there are Northwestern students looking for jobs, DePaul and Kent grads are out of luck. I don't logically see IU-Indy grads catching anything in that market.

This isn't to say without awesome ties and a high rank that it's impossible - just wouldn't bank on it.

As someone who is trying to work in Chicago, I can tell you it's tough. There's more than 1 alumni up there, the number is actually closer to 80. But it's still very, very difficult.

To do it you'll need good credentials, but more important is good connections. A solid connection can likely get you set up in a smaller firm. Chicago big law is almost 100% out of the question unless you are #1 in the class, or have a similar story to the poster above me.

My application was received on Jan 15, but still shows being processed. Is this normal? When do you think it's appropriate for me to ask them about why it's not completed yet? THanks!

You could probably stop in admissions and let them know you're there, we have potential students sit in our classes all the time.
