Any guess?
See my post about getting a hold email about 5 minutes later.
Did your status update after the mail?

Correction: My frist UR was 11/16
Before.

Getting held really makes me wish I had decided to just do the December LSAT and try to get higher than 170.
Is your status still UR?

Yes, but there's a message about being held at the top. See my last post.

Edit: also this "Application under Further Review Email" in the mailings.

Before. But I believe the message at the top of my status checker changed when the date did:
Thank you for your application to the University of Pennsylvania Law School. The Admissions Committee has completed its preliminary review of your application and has decided to hold your file for further review. The admissions process at Penn Law is a deliberative process. Every file is read by numerous members of the Admissions Committee. As of this date, your file has been reviewed by at least two members of the Committee and we are impressed with your credentials. We are continuing our review of your file however, and thus have not yet rendered a decision. Thank you for your patience during this time and best wishes in the coming months.
Getting held really makes me wish I had decided to just do the December LSAT and try to get higher than 170.
I see.
I believe I was also held as we have the same massage on the top of status check, though I have not received any email.

I was going to do the 2 page essay they mentioned (basically a long "Why I love Penn & Why Penn could love me too"). I wanted to get another letter of recommendation, but I feel like that could take a really long time between soliciting it, having it written, mailing it, processing at LSAC, and sending it to Penn. I don't even know if they'd get it before they made another decision.

So, to sum it up, probably a long LOCI and...I have no idea.

Sorry to interrupt the ED fest, but I'm RD and had my UR update again today (first time was 12/4) I'm surprised they even thought of us RD peeps today with everything else going on...

I got and updated date on my RD under review as well. First date was late November. Do we know what the update means?

Starting to think I'm going to be the only 170 or higher ED on LSN not to get accepted ED. :(

164 / 3.94 / non-URM.....really believed the sub-25th LSAT would be disqualifying...
Congrats!

I really thought you'd be in based on previous years, that sucks man. Don't worry though, maybe I'll get to join you as a 170+ who doesn't get in via ED. :?
larsoner wrote:I got and updated date on my RD under review as well. First date was late November. Do we know what the update means?
The theory is that when you first go UR it means your file has been accessed by someone in admissions, and when the date changes it means a 2nd person has accessed it (since Penn has 2 people read every application), though there's at least 1 person who's gotten in without their date updating (I believe), so who knows. But generally the date change just means your app is moving along through the process, nothing necessarily good or bad.

Edit: And obviously LSN doesn't make up the whole population, but it's interesting that 11 people on there got decisions today while only 6 didn't (and who knows, maybe the 5 that aren't me just didn't update it yet haha). I feel like they musta just forgotten about me or something

Edit 2: And just out of boredom (and trying to figure out why I'm one of the very few who didn't seem to hear anything today haha), I know I had the 11/10 and 11/17 UR dates, same as Cornelius (who was held) and 4julye (who got in). So based on this extremely small sample... the dates mean nothing  Though we're all 170+ LSAT's, so maybe they put splitters in one batch and reverse splitters in another. Or something.

I didn't hear anything today either if that makes you feel better. GPA above the median. LSAT between median and 25th. I went complete on 11/30 so I'm wasn't expecting to be in the first batch.

Do you have any clue why they put EDers on hold?
Are the adcoms looking for more supplemental material or simply comparing us with more RDers to make sure they can defend their stats?

Props to the ED admits today...there's a class of 2015 thread and a facebook group for the class of 2015 that looks to be pretty solid. Based on last year's look the facebook group turned out to be where everybody ended up talking about everything Penn related.

The thread:

The group:

What's the usual timeframe to withdraw from other schools if you're an ED admit?

Officially "ASAP." I'd say within one or two days of official acceptance.

Wish I had a clue. At this point I'm believing it's because I'm a borderline (weak) applicant.
