I dipped under the 3.5 mark, so I'm sweating it a little. Not sure if I update and let it ride, explain the situation in LOCI, or what. Oh well.Samara wrote: Your GPA dropped by .03? Don't sweat it.

It's not like there's a strict cutoff at 3.5. I think I like the LOCI idea best, but I would probably wait until prompted to update.Killingly wrote:I dipped under the 3.5 mark, so I'm sweating it a little. Is it too late to request to ED?
I'm realizing penn is my number 1 and I should have ED.
Just below GPA min 171/3.77

If you didn't submit a Why Penn or something of the sort, you can send that along expressing that they are truly your #1 and that you will definitely attend if accepted.

I did a why penn and my piece of art/lit that inspired me to study law. My strategy is if I get waitlisted to do an LOCI and if that doesn't work I will show up in rags at the admin office pleading. I'm sure that will work.curiousgeorgia wrote:Too late to request to ED, yeah, but those numbers are pretty solid.jpal13 wrote:Is it too late to request to ED?

The magic box on LSN is 170+ and 3.8+ , being even slightly out of that box makes me squirm. Complete 10/31, first UR 12/19. I think there are a lot of us there. I hope they start reviewing apps again on Dec 27 but I wouldn't be surprised if they shut up shop till Jan 3.

Re: Penn c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Can anyone please tell me whether paying Penn's first deposit (May 1st) forbids you to apply to other law schools?
I know this sound odd, but I have a previous LLM so I can apply to transfer to Chicago and Columbia in May. NYU's deposit agreement expilictly says "I will not apply to another law school afterward", so I wonder if it is also true for Penn?
Thank you so much!

whenever you deposit, it's in good faith that you won't apply to other schools. If it wasn't so, what would stop anyone from applying the next year with a good school already in the bag. If you get caught, say bye bye to every school out there.mjitbswyd wrote:Can anyone please tell me whether paying Penn's first deposit (May 1st) forbids you to apply to other law schools?

"After April 1, except under binding early decision plans, every accepted applicant should be free to accept a new offer from a law school even though a scholarship has been accepted, a deposit has been paid, or a committment has been made to another school. To provide applicants with an uncoerced choice among various law schools, no excessive nonrefundable deposit should be required solely to maintain a place in the class. Beginning on May 15 of each year, law schools that participate in the Commitment Overlap Service will be provided with information concerning all enrollment commitments to any law school made by those applicants who have indicated an intention to enroll in that school’s entering class. A law school should clearly communicate its policies on multiple enrollment commitments upon admission."

Re: Penn c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Confusingly, this LSAC statement about binding deposits is itself non-binding. Consider the opening paragraph:lrslayer wrote:Not obligated according to this:

Having done a little research, it appears that NYU's first deposit was binding last year, but Penn's first deposit was not. If Penn's deposit is not binding - in the sense that you can also submit deposits to other schools you have already applied to - it would seem strange and inconsistent for Penn to prevent you applying to other schools.LSAC wrote:This Statement of Good Admission and Financial Aid Practices is
designed to focus attention on principles that should guide law
school admission and financial aid programs. No attempt has
been made to develop “legislative” guidelines, because no
absolute rules apply to every situation. The statement is intended
to improve the admission and financial aid processes in law
schools and to promote fairness and the highest standards of
professional conduct for all participants.
Evidence for Penn's deposit being non-binding (look for the email quoted mid-page):

Actually I will choose Penn over Chicago and Columbia, but my GF is also appying this year so I want to know whether I will have more options if she cannot get to some place near Philadelphia.

Looking at LSN, there seems to be a VERY strange aversion to applicants with GPA between 3.6 and 3.8.
In fact, out of the 38 admits, there are exactly ZERO with a GPA between 3.6 and 3.8. This troubles me as I fall into this range......

People round to preserve anonymity. There are two 3.8s... those could easily be 3.75-3.79s.smokeylarue wrote:Looking at LSN, there seems to be a VERY strange aversion to applicants with GPA between 3.6 and 3.8.

Also, Penn is known for doing weird things with admissions, but I doubt they decided to just cast aside hundreds of people within their 25-50% for GPA.
Anyway, I'm cautiously optimistic. I really love Penn and it's one of the few schools that could sway me from NYU/Berkeley. It would be nice to go to school in a city and so close to family, and would be such an awesome Christmas present!

I'm in that range too, but FYI I believe those who are on the lower gpa side were ED. I saw those marks first appear when Penn was doing ED acceptances. Which means for RD candidates they are shooting for gpa 3.8 and up.smokeylarue wrote:Looking at LSN, there seems to be a VERY strange aversion to applicants with GPA between 3.6 and 3.8.

Bonjour! Congrats to those admitted recently.
I've sent my apps in early Oct. and now my UR stuck in 11/30. Should I worry about this?

U/R at Penn--submitted 11/2! That officially leave just UChi sitting at complete. I'll be heading home to Philly for xmas break this weekend--here's hoping for a crazy fast turn around so I can actually visit a school as an admitted student!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
