Not me, except maybe for some recent-ish applicants. Why go to the trouble of holding applicants if you're going to start up KB1s right away? I'm thinking a week or two at least before there's much movement.Byzantine wrote:Alright who's feeling some kb1s today?

I'm a "recentish" applicant. I'm assuming from your statement that you've been held?chucklesmcgee wrote:Not me, except maybe for some recent-ish applicants. We all know how that ended.Seaman on USS Arizona, 07 December 1941 @ 0600 wrote:It's all quiet on the western front.
Tomorrow, Barack Obama wrote: Yesterday, January 19, 2012—a date which will live in infamy—the HLS applicants were suddenly and deliberately attacked by admissions forces of the Harvard University.
The applicants were at peace with that university, and, at the solicitation of LSAC, was still in conversation with its admissions office and its dean looking toward the possible admission into said University. Indeed, two weeks before Harvard admissions officers had commenced dinging in the American forum of TLS, the Harvard admissions officer and her colleagues delivered to their blog sites a formal announcement regarding holds in reply to a recent student inquiry. While this blog post stated that it seemed almost useless to continue the existing admissions negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or ding attack.
It will be recorded that the duration from first ding to yesterday makes it obvious that the recent dings were deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Harvard admissions office has deliberately sought to deceive the students by false statements and expressions of hope for continued admissions chances.
The dings yesterday on the TLS forums have caused severe damage to HLS applicants' morale. I regret to tell you that very many applicants have been dinged. In addition, HLS applicants have been reported dinged on the internet tubes between TLS and LSN.
Yesterday the Harvard admissions office also dinged many splitters.
Last night the Harvard admissions office also dinged many international students.
Last night the Harvard admissions office also dinged many Rhodes scholars.
Last night the Harvard admissions office also dinged many legacy applicants.
Last night the Harvard admissions office also dinged many URMs.
And this morning Harvard admissions office revoked the acceptance of some already accepted applicants.
Harvard has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the TLS area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The HLS applicants have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our applications.
As commander in chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole forum remember the character of the onslaught against us. . .

IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- August 6, 1945
STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
Through past few months TLS airplanes have been dropping applications on HLS Admissions, an important HLS base. Those applications had more power than 20,000 tons of T.N.T. They had more than two thousand times the blast power of the British "Grand Slam" which is the largest bomb ever yet used in the history of warfare.
HLS began the war from the air at Pearl Harbor. They have been repaid many fold. And the end is not yet. With these applications we have now added a new and revolutionary increase in destruction to supplement the growing power of our armed forces. In their present form these applications are now in production and even more powerful forms are in development.
It is an atomic application. It is a harnessing of the basic power of the universe. The force from which the sun draws its power has been loosed against those who brought war from the North East.
Beginning in 1940, before Pearl Harbor, scientific knowledge useful in war was pooled between the TLS and LSN, and many priceless helps to our victories have come from that arrangement. Under that general policy the research on the atomic application was begun. With American and British scientists working together we entered the race of discovery against the

I would get my hopes up for one, but the common thread seems to be having had a KB1, a camp I have regrettably not yet found myself in.cerealdan wrote:Wow, more holds today?

That masterful speech "Barack" mentioned revoking admittance. Just wondering if that's actually ever happened without grounds?

Under review yesterday after submitting 1/9! Someone read my fortune from this meager and probably irrelevant bit of information!

Did you get the UR email or was it just via status checker?kingofspain wrote:Under review yesterday after submitting 1/9! Someone read my fortune from this meager and probably irrelevant bit of information!

Because, apparently, you go UR on status checker about 6-10 days before you get an "Application Complete" email. Once you get the "Application Complete" email, you could hear back as soon as the same day regarding KB1 (see last year's thread).

Submitted 1/2, still reads "Application Received" here. But I'm true international, so I wonder if people like me get dealt with together, given that it's probably a bit difficult to compare people without GPAs to people with.kingofspain wrote:Under review yesterday after submitting 1/9! I'm 178/foreign-superior, for what it's worth, but still in undergrad with only internships and extracurriculars - no W/E.
[EDIT: I forgot to add - also a little bit odd in that my undergrad degree is actually a foreign law degree.]

It really depends which side of 3.8 you are. If you're 3.75-3.79, I would imagine - barring crazy softs - that your application coming in so late will damn you. If you are 3.8-3.84, you will have a small chance.kingofspain wrote:Under review yesterday after submitting 1/9! Someone read my fortune from this meager and probably irrelevant bit of information!

This cycle hasn't been kind to the people who scored below 176 with below 3.85s. Applying late will almost certainly hurt you, I would imagine quite a bit. I'm not trying to be negative here, it's just that Harvard is very frontloaded -- you should try your luck this cycle, but is there any chance you could apply next year? I think it would dramatically improve your shot.
Good luck!

For those who have been held: Does your status checker update at all? If so -- how long after the email is sent?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
