Cornell Summer Waitlist 2011

Post by gsat » Mon Jun 20, 2011 5:33 pm

I am starting this post in order to:

a) stop myself from surfing the "Cornell 2011 Applicants" forum
b) curious as to who else is on the summer waitlist
c) hold on to a glimmer of hope

I haven't seen any movement....however I have noticed a pattern with Tuesdays. Whether they are dings, waitlists or people being admitted I couldn't tell you.

Dear Waitlisters,

Just got back from my interview. Apparently the class is full as of Thursday. Was contemplating whether to ride it out...Any thoughts on the likeliness they'd let people know anytime soon?

Sincerely yours,

Cornell hopeful

Also summer WL. Some schools sent out letters to admits with multiple deposits this past week, but don't look for movement any time soon: apparently a lot of adcomms spend the latter half of the summer going through transfer apps, and with classes firming up across the board it's unlikely there will be much movement until they start making up for no-shows in August.

Still not sure if I'm going to ride it out, but I'm here for now.

Is it a good shot if we reapply next year? I'm seriously contemplating the job I've been offered so I can get into a better school :-/

It likely depends on your numbers and their medians.

Curious if anyone has tried asking for deferred admission off the wait list? Apparently this has worked at some other schools (see Michigan WL thread), but not sure about Cornell's policy...

We are writing to let you know that we have placed your name on our summer waiting list. This list consists of a group of strong candidates for whom there currently is no space available in our entering class. Openings can occur at any time during the summer, including late August. Because of the late date, deferments of admission will not be available to people admitted from the waiting list. If you would like to continue to be considered for admission, please e-mail us at lawadmit@lawschool.cornell.edu as soon as possible with your current address, phone number and e-mail address throughout the summer.
You also should send us any additional information, such as spring semester grades and additional faculty or employer recommendations that you think would be helpful to the Committee in arriving at a favorable decision in your case. If at any time you are unavailable to respond to an offer of admission, be sure that someone at your address is authorized to act for you by sending us a $700 registration deposit.

We regret any inconvenience being placed on our waiting list may cause you. I sincerely hope that we may be able to reach a favorable decision in your case in the near future, and we thank you for your continued interest in Cornell Law.

Sincerely,

Cornell Law School Admissions

I'd say you have a pretty good shot, but ultimately that is your decision to make.

I assumed this to mean that, in the event you are admitted from the WL you will not be able to defer. What I was talking about is moving from WL status directly to deferred admit. i.e. since they supposedly like your app enough to admit you --space provided-- they go ahead and admit you to the class of 2015. As mentioned, some people on the Michigan WL seem to have had some luck with this.

I was about to clarify it for the others but you took care of it yourself. That sounds like an interesting idea, and I'm flying out there next week to ask them haha.

Update: According to the woman I just spoke with, there have not been any admissions off of the waitlist yet.
