Did you get the previous email form andy saying that he hoped the next email he sends begins with the word congratulations? the reference to that email seems to be the only difference between the two.

Whatever, I'm done with the school.
Yeah I got both.

Yeah I got both.
Also got both. How many spots realistically can open up at this point? 2,3??? Not many more than that. But I'm still hopeful even with another seat deposit due...

At this point it's all dependent on other t-14s and how their wait list movement goes. Say a spot opens at Chicago, someone that was going to Penn goes there, someone that was going to UVA goes to Penn, someone from GULC moves to UVA, and there's a spot open. It's either that or the need for deferment for personal reasons.

I didn't, but I also didn't get that "small group" initial email.

Yeah. Our next deadline is June 10th, which will really mean June 7th or 8th from the way things are going with these updates. I have very little hope at the moment, which is disappointing. GULC was far and away my #1 choice until they started jerking me around with all this coded language and unnecessary update bs

I really don't think it's fair to assume that last cycle's waitlist movement will predict movement this year. Last year was a completely different ball game.

+1, I genuinely think they will wait to see what deposits come in. How many of us are holding out deposit 2 at another school until the last minute just in case GULC comes through? As Flips said earlier, it will be a ripple effect that might not be felt at GULC for a few days. I appreciate the updates.

I would look at last years WL thread as a guide not as a predictor. The ripple effect will also depend on how many people they extended offers to this year but it sounds like they have some spots opening up so looks like they didn't overextend their offers. The crazy thing about last year was that only one person got off WL from TLS on June 7th and that was all that was reported from May 24th on. There may have been others who weren't TLSers though. I do think each year is different.

Yeah, last year applications were unusually high and this year they are back down a significant amount. Hopefully that influences the use of the wait list.

As long as were talking about trickle down effect, Michigan is seriously overenrolled right now (or so they say), so any students they give up to higher-ranked schools probably won't be replaced by WLers unless there are a very large number.

Are Georgetown's apps down this year?

They extended their deadline by a couple weeks or a month didn't they?

The overall drop is 11.5% so I'm guessing GULC experienced at least some sort of drop in apps around that number

My friend is too lazy to create an account and post this question, so he asked that I post it here for him.

He was originally on the regular waitlist, and he was in the second batch of emails from Andy with the "I hope our next communication begins with a Congratulations" line. He received last week's email from Sophia, but not Andy's email. Is there a real difference between getting an email from Andy or Sophia?

It has SEEMED so far that Andy's emails are more positive, so we figured maybe getting one from him was better, but the emails sent this time were very similar, except for the "update" date. But then again that might just be paranoid and anxious minds overanalyzing...

I think hidden somewhere in all the tiers of WLs, different people sending out emails, different days of emails sent out, is a logic game that if you solve and tell Georgetown they let you in. If not, you're left here wondering what it all means.

So when, if at all, does everyone expect to see movement? Deposits due tomorrow- is that a postmark date?

There was an electronic payment option, or alternatively you could mail a check in. The e-mail didn't actually say if mailed checks needed to be postmarked or received by June 1st, I bet most people just paid online since it is 2011 and all :)

and another email

Dear splitmuch,

I am writing to you today on behalf of the Admissions Committee at Georgetown Law. You are in a select group of people we have our eye on, should spaces open up in the incoming class. Yesterday, June 1st, was our second tuition deposit deadline and, based on the final responses to this deadline, it’s possible that a few spaces may open up in the incoming class.

I know you’ve been in touch with us recently, but the Admissions Committee has made it clear that at this point they are only interested in offering admission to those who are certain they will come if offered a space. If you are certain you will come if admitted, please let me know by responding to this email. And we promise to update you on the class situation soon.

Warm regards,

Alison

Well i don't get it, I was regular WL to begin with and I've responded to all of Andy's emails with "only if you give me money"...they keep sending me stuff, so does that mean money is a possibility?

But I thought I was part of a select group that was being considered for a handful of spots weeks ago! I did not get said email. And wtf who is Alison?
