well if the $54,000 he got at Mich and Duke is merit-based, and he has lots of financial need, USC might have figured he'd get another 20-30K a year from both those schools once they calculated need-based aid

but yea, might be a fake profile

Pick up any 2 offers, put them together for me please

this is exactly it, i think people are displeased with the amount of money being offered. I for one am grateful, though i really wish i could have gotten that 15,000k more total (I got 75,000), i'd have sent in my deposit that day.
plus 1 to the bolded. Though I am grateful. UCLA gave me nothing at first and then only offered $45K upon negotiating..

Well at least not the whole visit season has passed, so we are good. I may come visit if I can work out the schedule. My best friend teaches at Claremont and I promised to visit long ago.
McKenna?
did you go there? I'm class of 2010

Weird to me how that article is phrased. 'His girl'? Two way street, right? Makes her sound like a prostitute.

Is anyone still waiting to hear from USC about whether they go in? I am and it's frustrating because I have to let my other schools know this month whether I plan on attending.

I got my scholarship offer a few days ago and was wondering -- how does one negotiate their offer? I tried looking at comparable students on law school numbers, but not a very large sample size. I also got other offers 2x larger from other schools (but lower ranked -- BU and UC Hastings). Would USC care at all about these?

Would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Trying to book a place to stay on a budget and the Radisson is all booked up. Anyone have any experience with LA hostels?

It does. I think I'm going to stay in one of the ones near downtown LA. I was going to couch surf but I couldn't really find anyone right near USC. Just doesn't make sense for me to spend 150/night for one person.

Just email the admissions office, they should have given you some contact info. I just emailed whoever sent me the scholarship offer. USC seems really good at knowing when you are just negotiating to make your life easier, and when you are negotiating because it will actually change your decision. USC will probably ignore the hastings one, but if you have a demonstrable reason to choose BU over USC as it stands, USC will probably move just enough to make any reasonable person choose USC. Personally, they didn't give me anything more than they offered, and obviously they made the right move because I chose USC anyway after a lot of personal deliberation. The people I know who negotiated successfully were people with equal/greater schollies at equal/better schools. Good luck!

And to those of you looking for hotels: I stayed at the Vagabond Inn right next to campus when I visited. It was really cheap. You get what you pay for, but it's a short walk to campus if you're only staying one night, and you might look into sharing the room with someone else going. (Please know/meet them first.)

I was thinking about looking at them when I go for the ASD or law day or whatever it is in two weeks, but university sponsored housing leaves me skeptical for some reason. Does anyone have any insight? I'm pretty clueless.

I don't know specifically about Terrace, but I lived in USC Housing for two years as an undergrad. I think it would be nice to live in USC Housing if you are from out-of-state or completely unfamiliar with the LA area. But if you have a car and don't mind a little commute, I would recommend living outside of the USC area. You can generally get a much better value for your money if you look outside the USC area. PM me if you have any questions.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
