Re: St. Louis U. 2011 Applicants
I am still waiting on a recommendation letter to come in, but as soon as that does I'm sending mine in as well. Good luck to you! Do you feel competitive to be accepted? Also, I don't think they begin sending out decisions until the first of December

I submitted on 9/15 and haven't heard a thing from them. Their website says that they send out their first decisions on 12/1.

Good luck you guys!!!

I'm a current SLU undergrad (and a lifelong resident of St. Louis) if you all have any questions. Good luck.

As an undergrad, I obviously don't know how much contact you have with the law students, but do you know how they are doing in terms of job placement in St. Louis and across the Midwest?beachbum wrote:I'm a current SLU undergrad (and a lifelong resident of St. Louis) if you all have any questions. Re: St. Louis U. 2011 Applicants
I don't know too many law students, but I've been able to talk to a handful (one of my good friends is actually a current 1L, and one of my gf's friends is a 2L), so take this for what it's worth. First, SLU places almost exclusively in St. Louis and the surrounding regions (i.e. southern Illinois). If St. Louis is not where you want to practice for the foreseeable future, then SLU is not the school for you. Second, job prospects from SLU have taken a tumble ITE. I'm not sure how many employers came to OCI, but my impression is not too many. I spoke with an IP-secure 2L who is still scrambling to find summer employment. I also talked with a recent grad who is doing doc review for $10/hour at a local firm.Underground404 wrote:As an undergrad, I obviously don't know how much contact you have with the law students, but do you know how they are doing in terms of job placement in St. Louis and across the Midwest?beachbum wrote:I'm a current SLU undergrad (and a lifelong resident of St. Louis) if you all have any questions. However, there are still (solid) jobs to be had in St. Louis. Do your absolute best to land in the top of your class. St. Louis is not exactly a Biglaw hub, but you'll still find gainful (and well-compensated) employment at the top ~10%. Since St. Louis is a secondary market, networking counts for A LOT. Seriously. If you come to SLU, hit the ground running and go to all the social/professional events you can. Meet a lot of people, and use your connections. There's a fairly robust small/midlaw market here, and knowing the right people is a great way to break into this market.
I hope this helps. I don't wanna be all doom-and-gloom, but I think it's important to carefully weigh your options relative to the cost of attendance. I wouldn't recommend attending at sticker, but SLU can be a decent option (with a significant scholarship) for those who want to live and practice in St. Louis.

Re: St. Louis U. 2011 Applicants
Just get an email with a scan of my decision letter, in at SLU for 2011.
Status checker changed to "Decision made, letter to follow soon" two days ago, and saw they had assigned an @SLU email yesterday.
Thought it was worth mentioning, seems like they notified by snail mail in previous cycles.,

Those who have been accepted, would you mind sharing your stats?
I applied to SLU on 9/15. Never got so much as an acknowledgement. When I emailed last week they said I was under review.

Congrats. My understanding with SLU is that this was the first round of admissions, so it shouldn't be a surprise that you went complete so long ago and hadn't heard anything.
as far as stats go...3.21, 163

In via email. The scanned letter with a student ID and a pre-assigned email address was a nice touch.

Once your file went under review, about how long did it take for them to make a decision?

Re: St. Louis U. 2011 Applicants
I really didn't monitor SLU's status checker, so can't answer your question -- sorry. I can tell you, however, that the only email I had received from the school prior to the one regarding their decision was to confirm the receipt of my application (10/1). HTHhalah1 wrote:+1. Sorry. I can't answer this either. I never got any communication from them after submitting until I got the admit email. I submitted around 9/15.halah1 wrote:+1. I'd like to know this too.natedavis333 wrote:Once your file went under review, about how long did it take for them to make a decision?
