hum... American's YP success again
My numbers are 3.7/169, so yeah. :P
Why won't American offer big $$$$ to people with high numbers, rather than YP'ing them? If they did this they could up their #'s and not continue to fall in the rankings (I think they've fell about 8 spots in the last 2-3 years). GW is doing this with their Presidential Merit Scholarships, and having good success with it. And retaining their ranking.
who cares, it's great for people with crappy # who can get in finally, like me lawl

This presumes (I believe falsely) that American has $$$$$ to give.

This confuses me. I thought most law schools had a surplus of cash. It costs very little overhead to run a law school - professor/administrator salaries, building $, maybe paid internships? But they're getting 50k per student for three years (admittedly, alright, a few will have a 10k discount off their first year), but this is nothing like a phd program where you're paying grad student teachers or lab costs, etc. So... I'm at a loss.

Count me in. I'm staying with my friend in Arlington so maybe she'll join as well.. unless she's already planned something without letting me know.

From the looks of it, this may turn out to be a taco fest...

I'm leaving the logistics up to you, gdane (in terms of getting a group of people who only know each other by avatar photos together in the same place)

Yeah, for reals. We can just maybe write here what we're going to wear on the day of the ASD, I don't know. I've been to 3 other ASDs and each time we kept saying we'd get together and it never happened. I guess it will be harder to find each other depending on how big the ASD is.

kinda sad i cant join this shindig.

im in dc this very moment, having visited the school for a few hours today. came all the way from socal. sounds like a lot of fun for a bunch of excited 0Ls getting drunk. its bitter cold here (35-48F), although when its 77 in the middle of january in newport beach your view of hot and cold gets warped.

ill probably go to loyola instead of american, although i liked the facilities and people here.

i fear some serious separation issues from socal, and i think i would like to stay there after graduation.

good luck to everyone here, have fun in dc and bring a beanie and some gloves.

Does anyone have any insight on the potential of 2L and 3L scholarships?

At the Houston ASD/alumni event last night an alum told me that there are some 2L/3L scholarships you can apply for. From what I gathered they were semi-merit/semi-involvement based. She didn't really indicate how much though.

Does American even negotiate? or are you trying to negotiate from the $5k to the $10k?

Supposedly they do negotiate from $5k to $10k, but when I tried to leverage other offers against my $10k, they flat-out told me there was no money. They said the only thing they offer above that is grants and PIPS.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
