Re: William & Mary 2011
Out of curiousity, has anyone heard anything about the research institute fellowships either during a visit or through acceptance? (Citizen lawyers, Bill of Rights, Election Law, Law Library, etc) Did anyone write those essays?

Re: William & Mary 2011
When I visited they said that the acceptanced students' files would be sent to the respective fellowship opportunity along with the essay you wrote to apply for that fellowship. The dean I spoke to made it sound like it would be done all at once and that it had not been done yet (as of three weeks ago.)

Re: William & Mary 2011
Has anyone noticed the updated employment stats on their website? Obviously schools' employment data shouldn't be taken too seriously, but there was a precipitous drop in W&M's self reported data from last year...
Class of 2009 Median private practice salary: $140,000
Class of 2010 Median private practice salary: $105,000
Class of 2009 Employer type (private practice): 52%
Class of 2010 Employer type (private practice ): 40.2%
Looks like W&M got hit pretty hard...

Re: William & Mary 2011
Ok, that's pretty terrifying. Way to point that out. I mean, I would assume that is the case for most schools in the same range, and I appreciate W&M's honesty, but you could say this info makes me want to curl up in the... well, fetalposition.fetalposition wrote:Has anyone noticed the updated employment stats on their website? Appeared on status checker this morning. I checked on a whim, expecting to have been waitlisted after all this time. No e-mail, and no actual mail yet.

Lets be serious though - all schools across the board have gotten hit hard over the past year or two. I dont think that W&M was hit any harder than other peer schools. Its the times, not the school.
On a side note - has anyone started a W&M law class of 2014 group on FB?

Those numbers are concerning. I got a packet in the mail today with a full breakdown. Does anyone else have any other numbers for comparison? I feel like that should have been somewhat expected but its still a big drop

I got the packet. Classwide median for 2010 was $60K and the average was 75K. Median salary for private was 100K.TyrodTaylor wrote:Those numbers are concerning. I disagree completely with this. I think W&M got hit way harder than most of its peer schools (compare it to BC, which still placed 33% of its class into NLJ 250). Not saying it's the school's fault, but rather, it's largely the result of where it's located. DC got destroyed and W&M is third fiddle (if that) in DC... Richmond was barely there to begin with and I've heard that got destroyed as well.

Just got W&M's employment package. Seems unusually honest, which is depressing me.

Might not be W&M's fault entirely, but it's unappealing nonethelessfetalposition wrote:

Seems like W&M might not be the best choice for those looking to go into the private sector

Is this something that they are sending out right now to admits? Now I'll be checking the mail quite anxiously.DMBFan wrote:Just got W&M's employment package. Seems unusually honest, which is depressing me.

I got the packet - I appreciate the honesty but I wasn't all that terrified. Maybe I'm just realistic? Idk.

I thought the packet gave a picture that was right in line what I expected to see.

Yeah, me too. But this is where the bi-modal salary distribution becomes relevant. W&M is still placing 10% of the class in NLJ 250 making market, so where does that leave the other 30% of the class that goes into private practice? Gotta be enough people making low enough to bring the median down to $105k.jpSartre wrote:if I make 100k out of school i will be a happy dood.
I hate to be the negative TLS guy, but I just really like W&M, and am finding this very discouraging.

Re: William & Mary 2011
actually about 16% get NLJ. some firms outside NLJ offer equivalent salaries, and around 5% of the class gets clerkships (which lead to NLJ in many cases). Midlaw salaries can run from 45k-85k, and can have bonuses as much as 10K.AP-375 wrote:Yeah, me too. But this is where the bi-modal salary distribution becomes relevant.
