Did you write an addendum/have a good reason for your 162?pinkzebra wrote:I was staying away from posting on the thread because I didn't want to get my hopes up... Wrote an addendum... not so much on the good reason... I was working 2 jobs and I just didn't have the focus I needed, nothing like a major illness or death in the family though... Guess I should've lied and pretended I did

Sounds more like YP to me, you're a good candidate for HYSpinkzebra wrote:I was staying away from posting on the thread because I didn't want to get my hopes up... I also think it sounds more like a YP thing. Unlike mine, which is much less likely to be YP...

Honestly? That makes me feel better but I have myself convinced that it was because the 162 looks so bad... Oh well...

Think of it this way... Even if it is because of the 162, one of the top schools will bite. You have a great GPA and your 175 is very impressive, regardless of the 162. Obviously I don't know where you have applied, but I would guess you will have great opportunities.

Thank you That makes me feel better, this is the first decision I've gotten and naturally I freaked out because it was definitely a bad start to my cycle... I don't know your numbers but I'd assume since you were invited to Duke PT you have plenty of other options too.... Still sucks though.

3.61/173. Also my first decision, and not a good way to start. Duke wasn't crazy high on my list, but it was obviously high enough on it for me to apply there. Oh well, I suppose I'll start spending some more time over on that GULC thread, since I'm guessing that will be my next decision.
Best of luck to everyone, and congrats to those who have gotten in!!

Just got my status changed from "under review" to "decision made - watch for email" this morning. Anyone else get this, and if so, good or bad?

It's neutral...means you will either be getting Accepted or Priority Reserved at some point today.Lovely Ludwig Van wrote:Just got my status changed from "under review" to "decision made - watch for email" this morning. Anyone else get this, and if so, good or bad?

Not at all:Kili wrote:So is Duke known for YP'ing? Those last two look awfully sketchy.

Enough high number combos got accepted that I don't think the yellow dots can really be considered YP. Unless mayyyyybe most of the admits wrote Why Dukes and that was the determining factor (but from what I've seen on this thread Why Dukes - or lack thereof - have not tended to correlate with decisions.)

Re: Duke 2011 - Priority Track
I know this advice is a lot easier to give than to heed, but try not to get too down. I got PR'd with numbers that are almost all acceptances on LSN (172, 3.88), and I started fearing the worst for my other applications. Three days later I got a Michigan acceptance, and my existential crisis ended as quickly as it had begun.pinkzebra wrote:Apparently it was my stupid 162 then... I personally guarantee that you'll get into higher ranked schools. I would stake my (admittedly limited, given my post count) TLS reputation on it

Yes! In at 3.9x/170.
I think what really made the difference for me was writing a thorough "Why Duke," detailing how much I wanted to attend Duke specifically for their JD/MA program. Best of luck to everyone else!

Re: Duke 2011 - Priority Track
For those of us who did write a "Why Duke?" essay and still got PRed, would it do any good to write a "statement of continued interest," or do you think that would be excess and it's already pretty obvious that we want to go there through our initial application?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

Re: Duke 2011 - Priority Track
I wrote a "Why Duke?" and got PRed. I think I will probably write a LOCI when my graduate grades come out after this semester. That way I can update them with a new transcript and give them a LOCI at the same time. At least, that's my plan for now...coug11 wrote:For those of us who did write a "Why Duke?" essay and still got PRed, would it do any good to write a "statement of continued interest," or do you think that would be excess and it's already pretty obvious that we want to go there through our initial application?

Re: the scholarship forms - does anyone know how much of a difference it makes to have them consider need and merit? From LSN it looks like people with my numbers (3.9x/170) generally get some $$. I won't be able to get my parents' financial information and they will not be contributing to the cost of school; should I be good to just select "merit only" and hope for some $$ regardless?
