I think Columbia was the only one that people made into a graph because it made sense to someone sometime somewhere to make one. A lot of schools have an index, how they actually use them is subject to debate. Maybe Columbia was actually predictable... and I think Stanford and Columbia might be the only two in the t6 that indexes? And we all know Stanford is almost unpredictable.

Well yeah, I understand all of that. I was half-joking about my own situation, but I think it can be important for people to remember that we are nothing close to a representative sample of applicants and admissions.

Haha yeah, well I didn't want people to think Columbia was tossing all the 4.2s in the trash and whipping up Butlers/Hamiltons for 4.4s at an annual Index Party.

And yes, that's my new Schopentar. I like the grace of my Atonement 'tar a little better but I'm keeping this for a couple days since he made it for me.

I am ok with the rampant guessing on the madness that is notification. Index number is however a methodical tool that is easily explained (not as how it is here in this thread) in my head. So it makes me face palm.

It's true...that has always been my understanding of how index #s work, in fact the guy who taught an LSAT prep course I considered taking made that a big point of his first class. These numbers are how they group you in order to look at your apps, not the basis of their decision-making.

I think what kicked off the heightened madness here was a post a couple of pages back that I am too lazy to look up now where someone was like, "Columbia's adcomms all take index #s more seriously than GPA/LSAT!!!!!" And, this board being what it is, led to madness.
