It annoys me that law schools consider being held a "decision"

a la, "please see this pdf file for your decision"

Starting to look like they don't want people to freak out that the "wave" is over. Maybe this is just a nice way of saying "don't worry, things might be difference this year in terms of when we send out admits; if you haven't heard yet, it does not mean you're out."

Are they sending out holds to this ridiculously diverse group of applicants simply because they want to get responses out to applicants, even though they still have a lot of files to review in greater depth? Maybe they're giving people a glimmer of hope re: Columbia admission as they start to attend ASWs at other schools and make their decisions as to what school they will attend? Are all the acceptances so far "auto-admits"? I know this might sound like a ridiculous theory...What does this all mean?!

I am not an auto-admit, so this cannot be true.

I think we just broke TLS's record for rate of new page creation per minute.

Seems likes its just an automated system that they started running this afternoon. Probably by completion date or last reviewed date.

Since it's been going for hours, it indicates to me that there are a couple thousand of these going out. What do you wager? Maybe 2/3 of all who've applied? Ha.

They are putting EVERYONE on ice until they receive more apps by 2/15. Because of a huge drop in applications.

That's what I am wildly speculating.

This, along with our pool's slightly less impressive numbers relative to the past cycles. They're beginning to freak out about medians falling.

It only seems strange if you assume it's pretty much all about numbers. If you even allow that it really is (like a lot of admissions departments say) 1/3 LSAT, 1/3 GPA, 1/3 essays, softs, etc., then it's not so strange.

If this were really their reason, wouldn't their email have more resembled Michigan's email than Harvard's?

Can folks who were held post their submission/complete dates?

I applied 11/29 but took December LSAT and received complete email on 1/14.

No word since then.

Applied early Jan - received Complete on 1/19 - also no word. If anyone on hold can say if they went complete in January - can you mention the date? Good to know if they didn't include applications that went complete after a certain date (?) or if they did include apps after that date, and the no-hold means something else...

Yeah but many people with high numbers that haven't gotten in HAVE gotten in at other great schools- so one assumes there's nothing terribly wrong with the applications
