With all the money IU handed out to it's acceptances so far, any chance that the cash dries up for those applying later in the cycle?

How can they actually afford to hand out so many big scholarships. Is the IU alumni base a lot more dedicated and wealthy than I thought.

Anyone else receive an email offering a chance to attend an interview that will subsequently be included in your admission file? I believe this is not a good sign for me receiving one of these large scholly offers...I was getting really hopeful with a 3.4 and a 165. I got the complete email on 11/08/10 and have been waiting for a while now. I was really hoping a decision was coming soon.

Can anyone explain (obviously, most likely speculating, but what else is TLS good for) why IU dropped rankings last year? I know four spots isn't the end of the world, but with such a large endowment, I would think that they would be attracting better applicants, and thus, go up in rankings. Thoughts?

Could be employment data, and it could be schools moving up rather than IU necessarily moving down.

There's no question IU is trying to raise their LSAT median this cycle, perhaps in response to the rankings.

Because they made a big jump the previous year for a number of reasons.
IU only fell back a few spots, and one of those spots was GW getting its place back after "correcting" the rankings.

They are probably aware, but they also know that in order to compete they're going to need to do SOMETHING. Match 120k, unlikely, but they should increase their scholly offers in order to compete somewhat.

They are probably aware, but they also know that in order to compete they're going to need to do SOMETHING. Match 120k, unlikely, but they should increase their scholly offers in order to compete somewhat.

How long are they going to do this for? It may increase their ranking for 1 year substantially, but the change will be superficial if they can't do it again next year.

A lot of the schools around it are either state funded or notorious for not giving much. Also, who would really want to spend 3 years in Bloomington over some of the other cities that the schools ranked near IU are in. There are definite quality of life and networking advantages to the other schools that IU can't compete with.

Plenty of people, including myself. It's an hour away from Indianapolis. It's not bad in job placing outside of Indiana. It's super cheap to live there. Bloomington is in south Indiana so it's actually a pretty temperate climate (huge for someone like me who hates winter).

I'm also not sure Iowa City, IA; Madison, WI; South Bend, IN and Athens, GA are such obvious winners over Bloomington... And, while I imagine Davis, CA is lovely, is it worth the extra $100k? (UCDavis OOS sticker vs. IUB OOS $120k scholarship recipient).

Don't underestimate the freedom graduating with minimal debt gives you.

That is not necessarily true. Indiana might have a median LSAT score of 168+ next year.

IU most likely didn't blow their load early either. It would be smart to try to keep this pace up for a few years, and they probably know that. Not everyone who got 120k+ will be attending, and I don't think they used up their entire donation towards this year. They probably will be doing the same thing for at least three years, and by that point they'll have a nice pool of quality individuals who turned down T14s for close to full rides or more. Result = higher ranking for more than one year.
