They don't answer the phone a lot, you'd probably be better off emailing.applesauce2012 wrote:Hey everyone, just checking in
Got in off the WL and just received my admissions packet today. It seems like there are supposed to be two envelopes included...one in case you want to enroll and one in case you want to withdraw. My packet didn't come with any envelopes and the Admissions Office didn't answer my phone calls today. Has anyone else encountered this problem? (I suppose I could wait until Monday and call again, but I'm feeling very impatient and I want to send in my deposit ASAP).

Just withdrew. This was a tough one. I was actually crying the entire time I was writing the withdrawal email. Getting into HLS was a dream come true, but when I tried to withdraw from Chicago (I had deposited there), they offered to increase my scholarship to a Rubenstein. I just couldn't justify turning that down. So I won't be joining you guys next year - but I wish everyone all the best at HLS next year!

you know what you have to do now right? wait for HLS to reply with their version of a ruby, then withdraw from UChicuriouscat wrote:Just withdrew. This was a tough one. Re: In at Harvard
this can be done this late in the cycle? i know curiouscat is amazing and all so it might be just an outlier, but do you think nyu would offer to upgrade my scholarship (75k) if i told them about the harvard acceptance now...?curiouscat wrote:Just withdrew. congrats CC, because a full ride at uchi is awesome, even moreso than harvard.

Amazing. So so amazing. I sent a withdrawal email to Chicago (I had been offered $90k there also), and the response I got was "Hello xxx - Your application has been withdrawn."curiouscat wrote:Just withdrew. Ha, bit of a contrast there - I don't have any idea how I'd have reacted if they'd suddenly thrown a Ruby at me to convince me to stay on board. I really don't think I'd be able to turn that down, but clearly enough that's not a decision I'll ever have to make. In any case, somebody on the HLS waitlist is going to end up being very happy that Chicago threw that extra $$$ at you.
Congrats!

Re: In at Harvard
Thanks, guys! That makes me feel so much better.
I was shocked about the Ruby - I also had no idea they still gave that out so late in the cycle. I'm not really sure why I got offered one. Maybe I was already in some backup list for the Ruby (or backup of the backup). Also, I was sincerely impressed by Chicago when I visited and could really see myself being happy there - something that might have gotten across in the withdrawal email I sent them. So while I didn't actually attempt to negotiate the scholarship or anything, they might have gotten the sense that I'd be the sort to give staying at Chicago some serious consideration.
bk641, I don't know whether NYU would agree to negotiate the scholarship now, but I think that if you feel like right now you'd choose HLS over NYU, it's worth giving it a shot before you withdraw. What's there to lose?

Room assignment today! This definitely makes it feel a lot more real.
ETA: still no admission packet yet though. Have people been starting to receive these?

Re: In at Harvard
Interviewed on Friday and was just accepted!!! Got the acceptance by voicemail, so no idea when my deposit deadline is...any guesses? I want to come visit the school this upcoming weekend. Would that be silly given that it's summer recess? I visited once before, but I would like to visit one more time.

I got in on Friday and my deadline is July 10th so I would assume yours is similar if not exactly the same.Aqua wrote:Interviewed on Friday and was just accepted!!! looks like all of the HUH housing options are taken, i can't see anything when i go into the currently available apartments section. "find" button on the filter also greyed out.
private for me too, then.
anyone know a broker/whatever who has experience dealing with non-us kids like myself?

Re: In at Harvard
At the end of filling out the forms, I got a note mentioning that it might take between 24-48 hours to process (and therefore change to "received"). This window was accurate for me, but it may vary depending upon which forms you're asked to submit.sharktankdean wrote:anyone know how long it takes for the fin aid docs to change to changed to 'received'
