You should then be concerned about LRAP, as it is difficult to know how "good/bad" a school is in placing people in public interest. Re: UIUC 2015
Just saw this data. Should help people making decisions.
Note: This is the result of 2009 OCI, which was by far the worst. So dont get too scared, 3Ls are not that bad of, and I know for a fact (I've been counting) that our 2L class will hit AT LEAST 20% Big law this year.
Some markets got hit worst than others in the economy and this is reflected here. This data should be supplemented with Article III clerkships since those are hard to get and people usually take them over big law jobs. Anyhow, weird that Indiana didnt even make it to the list of top 50 schools.

In moments like this I am glad that the economy is better and that we have a new career office. Lets now hope that Italy doesnt send the World economy into a recession.

I hope that's true. That would certainly be impressive if ~40 2ls had SAs. It would be very helpful for 0ls and 1ls if you could list the firms you know of Illinois people going to. God knows our OCS doesn't give out info like that.illini22 wrote:Just saw this data. Should help people making decisions.

It actually isnt that impressive, it just means pre-end of world crisis numbers. I actually do not think that 20-30% percent placement is "good" by any means. People take a lot of loans to go to law school, while the chances are a bit higher than that (when you take into account people that do not want big law, PI/Gov, clerkship, etc), it is still a big gamble.
Anyhow, there are some threads around there with SA classes. I got this number from looking at the profile picture of everyone, and counting the ones I knew for a fact that got a NLJ250 job. Also, while some of this people will eventually end up at clerkship postgrad, meaning taking the actual number down, there are a few others which I dont know about, so it may be cancelling each other out. Some people also get big law jobs during 3L, but the number is significantly lower.
of the top my head list:
Kirkland
Sidley Austin
Jones Day
Mayer Brown
Winston & Strawn
dla piper
Jenner & Block LLP
Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP
McDermott Will & Emery LLP
Greenberg Traurig, LLP
Foley & Lardner LLP
Bryan Cave LLP
katten muchin rosenman llp
seyfarth shaw llp
Squire, Sanders & Dempsey
schiff hardin llp
Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP
Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP (not 100% sure if person took the offer)
husch blackwell llp
Paul Hastings
Some of these firms have multiple people in the same office (Mayer Brown, Cahill, Kirkland, Winston, etc) others have in multiple offices (Kirkland Chicago + NY; Jones Day Chicago + Cleveland). I am sure I am missing a few firms from people that I know got big law since it is easier to remember (I got a job big law job) than which one exactly, and there were a few people with multiple offers which I counted as (got a job) but I dont recall which firm in particular they ended up choosing. But this list should be at least 95% accurate.

Pretty positive you can add Paul Hastings to that list.
Edit: Also, there are a bunch of IP firms that I'm too lazy to remember right now. Those people seemed to do just fine.

Not creepy, awesome. It's the kind of thing our OCS should be keeping track of and sending to 1ls for OCI next year.dreakol wrote:creepyillini22 wrote:Ludovico Technique wrote:I hope that's true. Should I be concerned that my acceptance packet was just a boring letter and didn't get the custom UIUC USB drive with a link to a site with a flipbook?

Agree. Only problem is that those firms even though they pay market (aka 160k) they are not considered NLJ 250.blurbz wrote:Pretty positive you can add Paul Hastings to that list.

Agreed. IP is a totally different ballgame, but one that seems to be doing pretty well here.

Re: UIUC 2015
Went to my first ever Illini basketball game last night, and it was pretty cool. I think most people have already given up on the season, so it was somewhat dead. I mean, most of the seats were filled, but there wasn't much excitement. After the game, me and my friends went walked around the campus, which is GORGEOUS. I forgot how expansive, and how nice it was. I spent more time going through the town than I ever have. Champaign is really nice. I always hear it described as a "micro-urban" community, and it really is.

sure the campus is gorgeous and has beautiful buildings. but most of the time the campus is covered in filth, broken shit, and empty beer bottles. and you can times the amount of garbage covering the campus by 100 around this time of year (unofficial st. patricks day)

Well if you're a law student you don't ever have to go on the main campus. Although the times I have I've never seen it dirty. While in undergrad I never found this to be the case. I mean only place where I really remember being a mess at times is 6th near the Psych Building/Kams. and 4th just south of green. There are likely other areas that get bad, but the main quad, south quad and engineering quad were all kept in good condition while I was in Champaign.in2win wrote:sure the campus is gorgeous and has beautiful buildings. but most of the time the campus is covered in filth, broken shit, and empty beer bottles. and you can times the amount of garbage covering the campus by 100 around this time of year (unofficial st. patricks day)

true the quad is maintained well and green street is fine most of the time ( if you don't mind the occasional puke stain walking to class lol) but i lived right around fourth and healey junior and senior year so the garbage covered areas of campus is what I saw most of the time. Not to my mention my building specifically was just a dump. but yeah none of that matters for law school if your not on the main campus anywaymrjohnsterman wrote:While in undergrad I never found this to be the case. Yeah I would advise anyone to NOT live on campus as a law student. Before I came I asked a current student where to live and he warned me about living anywhere near green street. It was the best advice about law school I got.
