What do you mean by scholarship requirement?

Stipulations to keep the scholarship. The full scholarship people in my class have to stay in the top half of the class to keep it (except some of the diversity scholarships). It isn't automatically taken away if you fall out, though. There's a probation period and the school does work with people.

I don't know of anybody in my class losing a scholarship. Top 50% is not a bad stipulation, and Stetson does not section stack.

Ah ok, gotcha. Top 50% seems more than fair, though I'm not sure what it will be this year. I don't think anyone has heard of scholarship info yet.

When did you receive your $ offer? I was accepted last week and I think I have a decent shot at some money from Stetson (hopefully).

To be honest, I can't really remember. I remember that I talked to Darren Kettles when he visited my undergrad and he told me that I would most likely get a full ride, so I didn't stress about it too much. Honestly, I did not plan on going to Stetson, but they paid for me to come down and see the school, and I ended up liking it. Also decided that law school is not worth paying for .

Also, looking at your numbers and how early you applied, I predict good money from Stetson.

Honestly, I did not plan on going to Stetson, but they paid for me to come down and see the school, and I ended up liking it. Also decided that law school is not worth paying for .

I don't honestly know a lot about scholarship chances, but I would think that you would at least get something. Those are good numbers.

That atmosphere among students is pretty good. Most of us get along, but like most law schools, it can be like high school at times. It's a small environment so things get blown up more than at most undergrads. I don't think it's overly cutthroat. We all want to do well, but I haven't seen any instances of sabotage or anything.

I would say that the majority of students go out most weekends. Downtown St. Pete is a ten minute drive, and the bar/club scene there is a lot of fun. Tampa is further away, but it has some cool spots as well. Some people go to the beach bars, but that's more of a laid back/dive scene. In the spring, lots of students go out to the beach and drink/play frisbee/whatever. Intramural sports are fun. Softball is my favorite. Every Wednesday night lots of people come play softball, and many go drink together afterwards. School is stressful, but we try to be balanced and have a good time when we can.

thats very good to hear! i hope to get down there for a visit later in the cycle after (hopefully) scholarship money comes out. i hope you dont mind if i ask a few more!

is there anything you wish you knew before attending? what has been your favorite part(s) of stetson thus far? you mention intramurals are popular, do you happen to know if they do a basketball intramural? thanks again for answering question! you have a great perspective

I don't think there's anything I found out after attending that I wish I had known. I probably should have paid more attention to the pro bono requirement. We have to do 60 hours of pro bono in order to graduate, and at least 30 hours of it has to be legal pro bono. It really sucks and it's unreasonable. Hopefully it changes. Also you should know that the chances of getting a job through on-campus interview is slim. Not a lot of firms come to OCI (maybe 25?). Doesn't mean people don't get jobs, though. You just have to do a lot of the leg work yourself. Since your on TLS, you're ahead of the game. I interned at a DA's office in another southeastern state over the summer, and I found a nice part-time law clerk position in St. Pete when I got back down here. It's all up to you to make it happen.

My favorite part of Stetson is probably the people. I've made a lot of good friends, and they generally help keep me sane. Also, for those who want to be litigators, Stetson has good opportunities to learn useful trial skills. My trial advocacy class has probably been my favorite class so far.

Stetson does have intramural basketball, and it's pretty popular. I also know of people who play pretty frequently outside of intramural, too. There is intramural soccer, football, softball, and basketball. We also have intramural tennis tournaments occasionally.

They paid for all of the full scholarship kids to come down. It was like a $250 stipend. I think they still do it. It'll be an event sometime in February called the Scholars Retreat. It's a good experience.

Do you know what they look for to give scholarships? My LSAT is slightly lower than yours (161) and my gpa is the same (3.99). Do you know if they consider numbers or softs as well?

I think they probably do look at softs some, but I can't be sure of any of that. Make sure you have a good personal statement, because I talked to a professor who used to sit on the admissions committee, and they definitely look at it. I think there are people here in your range with fulls, but I don't know if there are a lot. You'd be much more secure with another point or two. Kinda sucks how big of a difference one or two points on the LSAT can make.

The admissions dean said that only the gpa and lsat are considered for scholarships.

For what it's worth, I toured campus this weekend and spoke to Admissions and it sounded like most of the scholarship decisions were based on numbers. Also learned that 20-25% of the incomming class are offered scholarship.
