Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
I've got a pit in my stomach about my interview. Hard for me to not feel like this is the most important 20 minutes of my life.
Any JS1 resources anyone want to share?

Yeah that thread is pretty much required reading if you are nervous about your interview and/or don't have much interview experience.jojobean7 wrote:I think someone posted this earlier ITT

Let's not pick fights in this thread please. Especially if off topic.gottago wrote:Lol "serious there though." I don't know. Congrats on your achievement. If we don't manage to get off the wl, we'll see each other at Columbia I guess.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
Hi, I received JS1 invitation yesterday and just finished an interview today. It was conducted by Danielle Early. She asked several general questions like the interested area of law, why law school, and why now. Besides, she was interested in our current plans about law school.
Here I have a question and hope that those who also finished JS1 could help!! At the end of the interview, Danielle talked about the time of the final decision, and also said that I needed to email her within 24 hours after the interview? I didn't get that part clearly. Could anyone explain it?

Thanks! I'm abroad and for some reason my phone is automatically translating everything on the spreadsheet to spanish. Gonna have to try it later on my laptop.sup_stan wrote:Spreadsheet at the first page please. And congratz!Balthy wrote:Didn't even realize this thread exists. Also js1!

So, if any trends are apparent so far with the recent JS1s, they may be that a number of them went to late applicants and almost all have WE per the spreadsheet.
Nothing really obvious in terms of number trends.

It's a phone call waitlisted applicants (I think only those who had a pre-WL interview) get the day or so before being admitted. It's done for yield protection purposes, and basically if you suggest that you'll go to Harvard you get inheirloom wrote:Noob question: What is a JS1-B?

Word. Thank you. Any thoughts on whether the 24-hour homework is something of a replacement for the JS1-B? Did JS1's this week pretty uniformly get the "homework?"drawstring wrote:It's a phone call waitlisted applicants (I think only those who had a pre-WL interview) get the day or so before being admitted. Draw - the "homework" is an email that we were asked to send within 24 hours stating whether or not we can commit right now to attending Harvard.

Wait what?!
Probably (definitely) getting way too hopeful, but I want to believe that means they intend to admit everyone they're interviewing this week!

I think that is the best-case interpretation. But other scenarios more likely....corporatebarbarian wrote:Wait what?!

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
I may have phrased my previous post poorly. Essentially, before extending an offer, they want to know how committed we are. My assumption is that people who are on the fence (like me) are unlikely to get in.corporatebarbarian wrote:Wait what?!

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I got the genuine sense from my interviewer that if, through your "homework", you expressed strong commitment toward attending HLS, you had a good shot of getting in. Again, this is based on nothing more than my gut feeling, so take it for what it's worth. It'll be interesting to see how things play out with this first round of JS1s.gma221 wrote:I may have phrased my previous post poorly. Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
From last year's thread and spreadsheet, it seems like everyone got a JS1b before being admitted, including those who had JS1 post-WL. It's strange how they started JS1 so much later this year but seem to be making decisions more quickly with the 24-hr commitment thing that has not been seen from previous cycles. The new "homework" does sound very much like a replacement for JS1b.drawstring wrote:It's a phone call waitlisted applicants (I think only those who had a pre-WL interview) get the day or so before being admitted. Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
hmmm....maybe it's a way of getting it out of the way for those who got interviews. I wonder what that suggests for people who already had interviews; will they get the 'homework' or a call?
I feel like there's a good chance JS2s go out late next week if they don't have to take the time to do calls for WL---JS1 applicants.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
They seem to have a smaller WL this year with a much larger portion of it being pre-WL JS1s. The number of post-WL JS1s that have gone out so far also do not seem to match up to the number in the initial post-WL JS1 wave last year. The fact that they could afford to wait until May 6 to do JS1 and still set an initial decision timeline of May 15-20 probably suggests either: 1) their yield is better this year, and they dont need as many people off the WL, or 2) they are going to pull relatively heavy from the pre-WL JS1 group and therefore do not need to do as many post-WL JS1s. I'm guessing it's a combination of the two. They also seemed to have rejected more JS1s pre-WL this cycle, and I am not sure whether that has anything to do with the smaller number of post-WL JS1s so far. I kind of feel that Harvard is winning more cross-admit battles with Yale and Stanford this year from reading some of the threads on this forum. My conjecture is that HLS probably will not pull as many from WL compared to last year, and the post-WL admits will consist more of the pre-WL JS1 group.
Spivey has a recent blog post about summer melt that kind of suggests the same idea (T6 is unlikely to pull more from their waitlist than last year due to stronger applicant pool or something).
