If you two are CA residents, I'm pretty sure your odds are better.

what is the acceptance rate for our-of-state ppl? if it's 10% overall, im thinking it must be pretty low. i'm also curious to know what stats r for CA residents vs. non-CA residents

I wish I knew the answer to this of course. Not sure where we would find this data. My knowledge is limited to the waitlist - and even more limited to waitlists from the previous two years. All I know from reading those threads is that it looks like Berkeley drew primarily (if not only) from the in-state ranked waitlist.

ETA:
Berkeley Law Website wrote: Do in-state applicants have higher preference than those from out of state?
You have a roughly equal chance of being admitted regardless of your residency. We strive to enroll a class that has a majority of residents, but we offer admission to an equal number of residents and nonresidents.
This may explain their waitlist approach.

Alright peeps. It's been a while since there's been activity in here! Just got my quartile ranking via e-mail from Dean Tom and I am fourth quartile. Going to withdraw! I'm very happy with where I decided to deposit so hopefully this helps someone who really wants to go to Berk...although I am fourth quartile so maybe not...

Hope this thread helps posterity!

I don't think "difficult" is the right word. I attribute Berkeley's lower acceptance rate to its lower medians- i.e. some of the people Berkeley accepts won't get other T14 acceptances, and thus will probably end up attending. It's certainly more difficult to get into H than Boalt.

how does the quartile system work. Does first quartile mean you are in the front while 4th quartile means you are at the end?

Did everyone on the wait list get the email today regarding them offering wait list spots in the "near future" and to confirm we are still interested?

If we get off the wait list, and accept we have to withdraw from other schools we're on the wait list at, right?

Yes. Once you accept at Boalt you are supposed to immediately withdraw from any other schools.
