That is awesome, thanks again for taking time out to answer these questions for us. Maybe I just speak for myself here, but the whole process is so detached and ephemeral. Submit apps and check status checkers... and hope for no WL / Rejection.
One last question before I overstay my welcome: Can you give me(us) any data on how many students you are able to pull from the wait-list every year? I ask a lot about the wait-list because that's probably where I'm going to find myself, so it's pertinent information.

Last year it was 6, the year before it was 47.
And approximately how many folks did you have to select from, on the WL, for those 6 lucky souls to be chosen?
A lot. The point of me telling you those two numbers was that it is impossible to tell from year to year how many people I will admit from the WL. If I had to guess, this year I would say it will be closer to the 47 then to the 6.
Oh I understand that you were making a comparison with the two years: It's totally and wholly unpredictable and I read that loud and clear. Since wait-lists are not ranked, I'm just trying to get a feel for how many people I am competing with again to get the opened-up seats.
Do you throw all the WLs into one stack and then go through them each time a seat opens, or are they separated by 'ability group'? If someone with, say, a 172 LSAT and a 3.80 GPA decides not to put the seat deposit down and that spot is therefore open, I assume you'd do your best to filter another high LSAT, high GPA student into that slot rather than, say, a 166/3.65?
I know I said I'm out of questions, but I'm totally not. It's awesome to actually have a dean of admissions to answer some of these questions, even if it is only just for one school (one school to which I have very happily applied and am anxiously waiting to hear from, despite the weather in Urbana-Champaign!). THIS will hopefully be the last one: When you place a candidate on the WL, you're essentially saying that you think they're capable of handling the curriculum at Illinois, but for whatever reason (their allocated slots were already filled by the same LSAT/GPA range, what have you) you couldn't get them a seat (perhaps they applied later in the cycle)?
