Of their website:

The parental information will be used to determine the ability of the parents to contribute financial assistance to meet educational expenses. Your financial aid application will not be evaluated unless the required parental/spousal information is provided. This is so even though all graduate students are technically "independent" under federal guidelines. We will take an estimated parental contribution into account when awarding financial aid, but students can make that contribution up in the form of an additional loan - therefore, parents are not obligated to contribute the estimated parent contribution.

Probably sit and wait. Often times the committees that decide the named awards differ from the regular finaid staff and work on a different timeline. I guess you could call and ask if you were being considered for any other awards, but I assume they wouldn't know.

I sure hope I get something. I visited Penn and absolutely loved the campus. However, with $0 need aid and $0 in scholarship money, there is absolutely no way I would attend. Maybe I will call and talk to some in the admissions/fin aid office about my feelings? C'mon Penn, throw a 171/4.0 some love. Otherwise I will be relegated to wearing my Penn Law Class of 2013 shirt without ever attending

waitlisted at Penn on Friday.

I was going to visit on Monday/Tuesday but the rain. So I'm planning to visit next Monday.

They encourage people on the wait list to send a two page essay on a topic of choice / rec letter / updated resume. I am planning to write a Why Penn/5-year plan essay, since I didn't write one originally. But I also was going to send a LOCI about my visit. Is that too much? Should I just put everything all together in a why Penn essay?

Soo I emailed Penn asking whether they had decided on increasing my scholarship (I sent them my offers like a month ago) and they said no. That this year was competitive and everyone is accepting their offers and blabla they won't be increasing any more schollys until later in the cycle if anything. Just FYI for someone who was hoping for more $$

Will Penn notify you if you are receiving $0 in aid - like Chicago does? Just wondering because I have heard nothing and was accepted back in December.

Got my aid notification today. I might be being a little ungrateful here, but I was kind of hoping for more. Anyone who wants to PM me to compare hopes/dreams/notes for Penn FA would be welcome.

Was this need based or merit? As in, they put merit aid on hold for a week or so, and I wonder if they've started going out again.

They notify you for need-based aid regardless, not sure about merit.

This may be jumping the gun, but what are everyone's thoughts on laptops? I currently have a macbook, but after reading that I would need to run boot camp in order to use the exam software at Penn (and most law schools, for that matter), I'm hesitant about using it in law school. Any thoughts about whether it is better to stick with my mac and run windows or switch to a pc?

If I switch to a pc, I'll most likely end up with a Thinkpad or a Vaio, unless someone has a better suggestion.

I've been using boot camp on my Macbook for about 2 years and never had any problems with it. As long as you have the hard drive space and are fine with your current machine, I'd say give it a try instead of buying a new PC.

Just got accepted and will be going to Penn next year. I'm in Philly now looking for apartments. I was looking at Domus but its extremely expensive. Do any law students actually live there? Anything else really close to the school I should look at?

I've been given an EXTREMELY generous scholarship by Penn, but I'm still torn between it and Harvard. Penn seems like such a great place to be, but I want to clerk for appellate courts in CA and maybe even take a shot at a Supreme Court clerkship, and I don't know if Penn puts me in a good place to do that. What do you guys think? Anyone in the same situation?
