It's not even necessarily that. Basically I got screwed by admitting that Stanford/Harvard would be the schools I would go to over Berkeley. Once I told the woman that, I didn't leave myself any outs. I asked if I could submit a scholarship from another school from which I'd already withdrawn. She said, basically, "eh no, you admitted to me you'd go to Stanford or Harvard if you don't come here, plus you told me you'd withdrawn from those other schools, so no you can't submit that. You can submit need-based aid from Stanford or Harvard but you cannot submit an offer from any other school."

Basically I was punished for being honest. It's sad, too, because I would have picked Berkeley over Harvard almost for sure and definitely with $$ and given enough money from Berkeley (think what smov operator got), I would've conceivably picked it over Stanford as well. As it stands, it seems like they're trying to get me to withdraw, which I probably will do shortly at this point. I've been really turned off by this.

Moreover, this isn't really a fair point. Harvard and Stanford simply will not award merit-based aid. They don't do it as an institutional policy. And comparing my need-based aid at HLS/SLS to another applicant's merit-based aid at some other school is, at best, comparing apples to oranges and, at worst, totally unfair. Merit-based aid is seemingly doled out by most schools without regard for anything but numbers. Need-based aid is calculated on a whole slew of factors, some of which are completely outside of an applicant's control.

Sorry, Crack. Your interaction reminded me of this dialogue from Seinfeld (I couldn't find a youtube clip of it):
Jerry: "Excuse me I'd like to return this jacket."

Teller: "Certainly. May I ask why?"

Jerry: "........For spite..."

Teller: "Spite?"

Jerry: "That's right. I don't care for the salesman that sold it to me."

Teller: "I don't think you can return an item for spite."

Jerry: "What do you mean?"

Teller: "Well if there was some problem with the garment. If it were unsatisfactory in some way, then we could do it for you, but I'm afraid spite doesn't fit into any of our conditions for a refund"

Jerry: "That's ridiculous, I want to return it. What's the difference what the reason is."

Teller: "Let me speak with the manager...excuse me .............Bob!"

(walks over to the manager and whispers)

Teller "........spite....."(Manager walks over)

Bob: "What seems to be the problem?"

Jerry : "Well I want to return this jacket and she asked me why and I said for spite and now she won't take it back."

Bob: "That's true. You can't return an item based purely on spite."

Jerry:. "Well So fine then ..then I don't want it and then that's why I'm returning it"

Bob: "Well you already said spite so......"

Jerry: "But I changed my mind.."

Bob: "No...you said spite...Too late."

I'd say that's more or less accurate. I laughed.

Yeah. Now that I am no longer getting the error message, this is what I'm getting. Did it ever resolve for you?

Well...I can see it now, and it's definitely not good news :(. I e-mailed them and they had my package ready for me last Friday. I'm starting to wonder if "systems error" meant "we messed something up and by the time we got around to your package, there wasn't anything left to give."

I chuckled.

I wonder how many TLS'ers are going to end up at BoalTTT. I wouldn't admit that I've posted here if anybody asked me, but it'd be amusing to find out who some of y'all are IRL.

I thought it was settled that the plural for "y'all" is "all y'all"

There was enough booze around, but not enough free booze. That said, a few admits and I shared a "you read TLS too?!?!?" moment over the CLR keg.

So what does everyone think with the "tenatively attending" feature? Honestly, I'm waiting on scholarships from Boalt. (Not to sound like a prick) but I wouldn't go without one. But I still wanna be in consideration for one.

My understanding is that "tentatively attending" = "hold my spot". You pretty much have to pick that or "definitely attending" by Thursday or else they'll probably assume that you're not attending at all.

No one wanted you and your Tiger-Woods-loving self around anyway. May the ghost of William Rehnquist haunt your exams.

Go Bears.

Did anyone submit the tentative form yet? Do you get any kind of confirmation? Is the second response form available right away?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
