If anyone is interested in any "MSU Law" shirts let me know! I have 3 (sized L and XL) that I'd sell on the cheap!

So I have a question. My status checker hasn't changed, but I got a letter saying that I had been recommended for a scholarship. Anyone else in the same situation? And any ideas on negotiating the scholarship offer?

If you have to do more- you will get an email telling you what to do, how long you have to do it, and who to address it to. Other than that try an LOCI and talk about other schollies that you got- and see if they will match.

As an aside- Best of Luck to those that are attending MSU. I am officially withdrawing on Monday. My scholly hopefully will go to TLSer. ( Michigan is just too far away to live and work for a while)

Here are pics of the three shirts I have: http://s407.photobucket.com/albums/pp15 ... ol%20Swag/

I'm realizing now that one is just a "Michigan State" shirt (XL), the other two are law-specific. I paid $15-$20 for each when I was so sure I was going . . .then surprise, got a scholarship elsewhere. Anyway, I've never worn them. The two law-specific shirts are size Large - cotton - super soft.

They stay with you for the entire day...some people had more than one guest, some had just one.
I registered my guest ahead of time...name tag waiting on us both when we arrived.
Some people did not...they had hand written name tags...point being that they probably will not turn your guest away if you did not register them.

Age ranges were undergrads to seasoned professionals...some people were business casual, some very casual, some looked like they were headed to the gym afterward.

Dressing for a job interview (a tie) would be overdressed.

Dean, Faculty and Admissions staff were dressed the part.

Current law students ranged from business casual to t-shirts.

I am a current student, and I know there are several people from my section (and at least a few from other sections that I know of) that are planning to return to California after school. It seems like it is about the 4th most common place for our grads to go behind Michigan, Illinois, and Washington D.C. I cannot substantiate that with any statistics, but based on my conversations with colleagues that would be my take on the issue.

Got a big packet in the mail today with a nice scholarship offer pending money availability. They said they are waiting until mid-April to make final decision. Tough decisions to make as most of the schools I was offered admission to have seat deposits due before then. They said the scholarship would also be offered to me for the 2012 class. It may be hard to sit out a year and wait for a scholarship, hopefully they have the money, MSU is one of my top choices.

Waitlisted as of today... Exciting. Debating on keeping my name in the hat for a seat in the Fall. I've still have to hear from 10 other schools...

Hey all. Went to the 3/3 ASD. Making my decision in the next couple of days but am leaning towards MSU. Figured no ones really talked about housing all too much.

Housing is the last thing I want to think about once I move so I've spent probably way too much time looking now so I figured I would spare some of you some of the leg work and share, hopefully it helps. I spent a lot of time while I was in Michigan (from New England and first timer to the state) looking at housing, went through what the school sent me, visited places, etc. What they don't tell you is 90% of the places run on the undergraduate schedule, thus leases don't start until mid-to-late August, well after a 1L is required to be there. Regardless of where I go I am going to move in June 1st as my current lease expires, unpack, travel for a bit and get settled in late July but it sounds like I will have to take a May lease (they basically either start in May or August) which stinks.

Also, there are very, very, very few 1 bedroom apartments. First year of law school I don't want a roommate, especially someone I've never met, so it seems like those of you who are in the same boat may wind up renting a 2 bedroom for yourself if you want to be in a good area. By good I mean quiet, away from undergrads and on a good CATA bus route.

Last tip. When you talk to some of these leasing places, mention that you are going to be a MSU law student. Some places knock 25 bucks off for rent but you have to ask for it. And ask about specials. Lots of places doing free first month but again, you have to ask.

I was at the 3/19 ASD from out-of-state and spent some time that weekend looking for housing as well.

Be aware of the active railroad tracks that run throughout the Lansing metro-area. You can see them on Google maps.

I noticed several MSU/Okemos area complexes that are adjacent the railroad tracks.

I received a message from another TLSer that described the noise at Berry Tree (2950 Whitehall Drive, Okemos, MI) as "the trains had a habit of blasting their whistle directly outside, or sometimes parking for awhile before proceeding, running their massive diesel engines."

I experienced something similar at my first apartment in Berkeley...the trains were non-stop all day and night...insomnia during law school would be awful!

You are absolutely right! I was at the 3/3 ASD and was driving around, came to a red light, thought ok no big deal. All of a sudden this massive train is just puttering along; literally massive. Some people just turned off their car and I saw the person in the car next to me just start reading a book. I literally sat their for 20 mins.

I did look at Berrytree and I have heard the same thing about the train. I think I am ending up at Knob Hill which is a bit farther from the train but still on the "wrong side of the tracks" so I hope I don't run the the risk of being late for class because of a train. I chose this place over places closer to the northern part of campus mainly because I heard it was quieter and away from a lot of distractions on grand ave. It is also right in front of CATA which should be important; I looked at Club Meridian which is in the same area, a bit cheaper and not as updated although you have to pay Electric & Gas, but it was also almost a 1/2 mile walk to CATA. I have no problem walking any distance but I have also not experienced a Michigan winter.

Insomnia during law school is going to happen anyway your 1L year. It might be beneficial to have the trains to keep you awake.

Received admission packet by mail yesterday. Offer of a seat and of 1/2 tuition scholly for NEXT YEAR. Apparently, they are having very high yield, in part because of the jump to T2.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
