Hey guys,

So, I made a mistake in my application by sending the Form C's for Stanford TO Stanford and not to LSAC. I'm not sure how I overlooked that fact but I think it might have killed my chances at Stanford because now I'll have to wait for these letters to come in that I can hopefully mail out tomorrow.

Regardless, as I already hinted, hope is eternal so I will be still applying. My question is, did you send in Form C to LSAC and how do they process that? Does it show up as an evaluation? Do you have to register whoever is making the evaluations? I'm a little confused about how they process it. Any advice would be helpful.

Form Cs are supposed to be sent in attached to the LOR and sent to LSAC. LSAC scans it with the LOR and it shows up as a LOR, not an evaluation. The LSAC evaluation has to be filled out by someone online, so it's not the same thing. When you initiate the evaluation, you put in the person who would be evaluating, and they get an email with instructions on how to finish.

Just sent another LOR to LSAC. Might not even make a difference but still. UR 11/29...it's a race against time. Someone hold me.

EDIT: Omg, I'm official neurotic. I just reread my post and thought "when I say hold, I don't mean held by SLS!"

Well ... do you think SLS becomes more "undervalued" after Boalt goes to $54000 this year and $58000 next year?

The tuition increase sucks when compared to the rest of the university. The raw amount comes to about $2400 more next year than this year, and the rationale is a little ridiculous.

If that money came back into fellowships/grants, that'd be okay. But I'm betting it doesn't fully do that.

Yeah, I made the same mistake...and it really screwed me over, because the professor I had write it is now overseas on sabbatical and can't be reached. I told SLS to please use the LOR/Form C they had on file if at all possible, or if not to use the general (non-Stanford-specific) letter from that same recommender, which I then sent to them through LSAC. I received an email back the next day informing me that my app was complete, but they never commented on what they decided to do about the LOR. I hope this hasn't seriously tanked my chances at Stanford...sigh.

I just don't see how Stanford considers Boalt as its closest peer. I think it views Yale as a reference much more so than Boalt.

Given the school's focus on need based aid, it totally makes sense to have high tuition and large grants. It sounds like they may not be implementing that model as much as people made out though.

And I would've liked to see us buck that trend. I think it would make a statement if one of the top schools stayed stagnant or under-inflation. I know there's no reason to since they could replace any of us here with 2000 other students who'd pay sticker for our spot, but I think it would've been something.

As someone who benefits from need-based aid here, the school does an amazing job cutting down the real cost for a lot of us (I'd argue more than anywhere else, including Yale). I can't complain. But I do know friends who aren't benefitting from that need-based aid.

It's all moot, since an extra $1000 (the difference between a 3.5 increase and the 5.75 increase) is negligible in real terms. But perceptively it stings a bit.

I am not implying that at all, I am merely saying Boalt is driving up "market" rate for a top law education, there is no reason for SLS to not follow suit - considering there is more demand for SLS.

As I was taught in an Ivy education marketing class, lay people perceive price as quality. So when all the top schools are charging $50, it actually hurts your reputation to charge $44, especially when you are private. People may perceive that lower price translate to less services/investment for students, which has the potential to hurt the brand. Raising it to just under the market rate is win/win/win.

I have plenty of experience in the for-profit sector with under-pricing products. It's best to follow the market trend. You don't have to match the market rate, but you should at least follow the same curve.

Generate a new LOR request in LSAC account. Send new LOR to LSAC. Assign the new LOR to each school you want to send to and LSAC does the magic. You can then email each school with a LOCI to let them know a new LOR is coming.

I believe it would still go through LSAC. Unless you've already assigned the maximum number of letters, you can attribute a third or fourth letter to a school and it gets sent fairly quickly -- will show up in your status checker in about a week.
