I haven't heard anything from Berkeley for 4 months. Survived three waves of dings only to get dinged on the 4th wave sometime in the near future. At least at NYU I can pretty reliably say that I will be waitlisted. Berkeley was just a huge tease this entire time.JamesDean1955 wrote:Even with the unnecessary fourth option of FR1 --> FR2, Berk's admissions process is still way better than NYU's bs process. Hearing something is better than nothing at all.

Mmhmm. I'm at, what, over five months? With nothing except an e-mail about financial aid. Only Stanford has been even more tight-lipped and, well, it's Stanford.BigZuck wrote:Berkeley was just a huge tease this entire time.

I certainly agree with you. Although I would have taken FR1 over having to sit through these many bloodbaths and getting my hopes up more and more only to have them dashed when the FR2 email day came.shntn wrote:Mmhmm. Although to be fair we are probably both getting dinged on the same day anyway so what does it matter?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
Yeah, this does assume that FR1 is bigger than FR2. Maybe it's not. Still though, I would bet at least 1/4 would post here their FR admit call. I know most applicants aren't into TLS, but I bet a lot of them came here to see what the hell under faculty review means. Then TLS sucked them in. All of this is to say, I really think there are more FR1 acceptances today. Maybe not many, but I wouldn't lose hope yet.Rory19 wrote:I want to believe this but this assumes that the ~200 FR acceptances predominately come from FR1 which other than possible anecdotal trends from previous cycles (I have not researched this) is not addressed in Dean Tom's article. I want to believe you're right but with the large amount of strong candidates that have been sent to FR2 (e.g. Man of the Minute) I can't help but think the remaining FR acceptances are for them.WhatOurBodiesAreFor wrote:If 20% of T14 admits actively post on TLS, that would mean at least 40 people should post on here that they've received the acceptance call off of FR. So far I'm counting ~20.
These are very imprecise and speculative numbers here, but it does seem that there are some more FR acceptances to be had.
Even then, being in the first couple tiers of the WL would put you in a promising position.
Hope.

insidertimes wrote:I feel sorry for you guys who are freaking out about what faculty review could mean so I'll fill you in as a Boalt alum formerly involved with the process. The admissions people (mostly Dean Tom) initially put you in a yes, no, or maybe pile. Maybe is the FRs. The FRs go to a committee made up of a faculty member and a student (remember on your application you gave permission for a student to look at it?). This committee then chooses a pre-designated number of people for acceptance, waitlist, or rejection (and sometimes hold for people from FR1 who get passed onto FR2.) These student/faculty decisions have very little to do with your GPA/LSAT and everything to do with your overall strength as a candidate in terms of personal statement, rec letters, life experiences, your fit with Boalt, and what you would add to the law school. Basically, once you've made it to FR, your numbers don't really matter. So, you guys who were accepted from FR and are posting your numbers are not actually providing any relevant information. Hope this is helpful and that people relax a little bit and stop giving each other worthless advice.
Hey insidertimes, if you are still reading, do you have any advice for people who just went to faculty review about letters of continued interest? Do they help (or possibly even hurt?), and do you have any suggestion about how to write them and what to include?

Status checker tells me waitlist. Ah, well.
ETA: FR1 1/24/2013. Just got the waitlist email. I kind of like it when they explicitly tell you that no added information or LOCI will help. Takes the pressure off. I sent a letter anyway, after the FR1 email, so I guess now I just wait. Again. FOREVER.

Is this soft reject, or a real chance for some?

I'm surprised, with those stats. I knew my GPA would be a tough pill for their notoriously splitter-unfriendly asses to swallow, but your surprises me. Sorry, bro.FlowBro wrote:Dinged from FR1 with 170/3.8...wow slightly disappointed.

Has anyone heard back from a matching scholarship application from berkeley? or do they know the best timetable to submit one? considering making a new topic on this to not distract from the decision-related conversation

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
Dinged, very surprised at no WL considering I was slightly above LSAT median, somewhat below GPA median, and have years of work experience.
However, Berkeley was honestly never a top choice because of geographic reasons, and maybe that's why I was dinged (or I f'ed up my app somehow, but that hasn't happened yet with my other T14 schools).
Hopefully this makes room for someone that has Berkeley as a top choice! Best of luck y'all, over and out on this thread.
EDIT: Also, I was FR1 in case anyone was wondering. Also a re-applicant.
