Committee review for me as well. Boalt would be a huggggge reach for me, but I'm hoping they're honest about the "holistic" thing, because from a geographic and intellectual perspective I can't think of a place in the U.S. where I'd be happier.

Does your status checker specify that you're under committee review? And if so, what date did that start?

From the TLS interview with Dean Tom (probably slightly outdated but a decent reference point):

"[W]e also identify about 1400 to 1600 other applications that are very competitive, and these we send to our faculty admissions committee, comprised of 6 faculty and 12 students. Students serve in an advising capacity on the committee. I admit roughly 550 people through what I call the administrative review process, and the admissions committee (the faculty committee) admits about another 200 or so."

They generally send a letter/email telling you the last date they'll have your committee review decision. It usually comes a few weeks before this date.

Sorry to reiterate this point again, but can anyone explain how you know you're under committee review? If it says it on the status check somewhere a screen shot would be most appreciated :)

I don't know how to post a screen shot, but immediately under "Welcome to Online Status" is the following:
"Your application at UC Berkeley Law School has passed an initial administrative review and has been selected for further consideration by the Faculty Admissions Committee." I don't know what, if anything, used to be there.

Awesome thanks! This is helpful. SO I'm guessing that if you get a DLS without this step that its a rejection? Or is it possible to get in without committee review?

So is being still under regular review good or bad? and is committee review good or bad?

at this point, committee review is good. because it's either CR or bust right? But being in committee review obviously sucks compared to being accepted 2+ months ago. I think compared to the overall size of the pool, your "chance" of getting in are the same numerically, but the committee review pool probably has a ton of great candidates so it's "harder" to get accepted from it. just throwing out wild speculations here. haha i'm pretty clueless about all of this CR jumbo.

Is this really the first time anyone has mentioned the top of the page committee review thing? If so, I think everyone without it is done for(including myself because I'm still UR 11/1 and have "Thank you for applying to Berkeley Law. Please check your online status regularly. If the information is incorrect, notify the Admissions Office at admissions@law.berkeley.edu. Please note: Residency is self-reported." at the top of my page. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Anyone know for sure?

I'm still UR 11/22. Wouldn't have noticed the change on top if I hadn't read this thread
